FYI, the criminal justice system in Russia is stacked in favor of the government. If someone in the government wants someone convicted, it will get done thru the courts.

Yeah, Pussy Riot got two years for singing their protest song. FYI, they sang it at the altar of the main Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Moscow. They weren't topless, though. Many Russians approved of their protests, and thought the prosecution was a travesty (e.g., RT news site). However, many others approved. Many Russians still prefer stability to freedom, which is why they like Putin, who was elected, though only kinda legally. After all, freedom is scary for many. That said, there's not much else that can be done by Obama or anybody else. Putin is authoritarian and is determined to prove that Russia is still a Great Power that has to be reckoned with. Hence all his provocative gestures both internally and in foreign affairs - posturing for his base. You can take the boy out of the KGB but you can't take the KGB out of the boy.
