Boltfan, I usually agree with your sports opinions but I wholeheartedly disagree here.

You're right when you say the weight of the line does not matter. That does not mean shit. If I remember correctly, Texas Tech had the biggest O-line in football 2 or 3 years ago and they were 8-5. Talent matters and girth does not. Did I really just type that on a whore board?

Anyway, I completely disagree with you Boltfan, when you say that there is no correlation between injury and quality of opponents. I believe I read on a prior post on this thread that you went to SDSU. Do you really think your school would make it out of your weak conference as healthy as they would if they played in the SEC? I highly doubt it; just ask Colt McCoy after the Championship game about the differences with the violent collisions and how the injuries make a difference in quality of opponents. Alabama and other stud teams are no joke and hillbilly Colt found that out before he was even half way into the 1st quarter against Alabama....And just for the record, I hate both Texas AND Alabama.

Big boy football is a different animal - those guys are bigger, stronger and faster and that leads to more injuries. The better the opponent, the better the athletes. And yes, that leads to more injuries....Find me a Hyundai that is fine afer running into a GMC. I know, silly example, but you get the point.

I would also like to add that as a guy who was born in LA, I appreciate that you have Lakers love!!! Threepeat on the way, (assuming of course that Bynum may actually stay healthy for the damn playoffs.)

And Waco Kid, great thread!!!

In Physics mass always wins in football not so much. sure if you have a 330 pound lineman running a sweep and a 210 pound safety tries to hit him the lineman wins. Remember the Texas-OU game a few years back? OU had Phil Loadholt (fuckin' great name for a lineman!!) well Brian Orakpo owned his slow-footed ass by speed rushing right past him. Orakpo goes maybe 260 or so. Straight up in blocking drills Loadholt wins due to sheer mass but on the field Orakpo used speed and quickness against him. Loadholt went to the Vikings and Orakpo to the Redskins where he played in all games as a rookie, made a serious impact. Loadholt's profile didn't load his stats so couldn't see how many games he played but i don't think he's a starter. So sheer size is not always a clear edge.

We can't use SDSU as a measuring stick because frankly... We suck.

I agree that BAD teams will definately get beat up against good opponents but CPT specifically said that the big 12 teams are BIGGER. That is in fact not correct. The top teams in the Big 12 are well coached but is every team well coached? Is every team in the SEC well coached?

Well coached teams tackle better, hit harder due to better form and can subject an opponent to just as much risk of injury. TCU and Boise St., the teams discussed here, are VERY WELL coached. In my opinion they would do well in both the big 12 and the SEC. Could they beat Alabama? Who knows, but they have not been given the opportunity. Alabama sure as hell doesn't have the balls to schedule them as an opponent. When they scheduled Penn St. 3 or 4 years back they sucked. Only now have they regained some past glory. Boise St. sure did beat OU when given the opportunity. They also beat VT, which crumbled at the beginning due to overconfidence.

The argument that they cannot compete isn't valid for a Bowl game either. Alabama, OU, etc. have just as much time to get healthy and prepared for a bowl game a month away. These are 18-22 year olds we are talking about here. Barring a season ending injury they heal quickly.

And yes, The Laker love is there my friend. 3-peat for sure.
