Sitting aside the politics of the situation for a moment, let me share my (a former US Army officer) perspective of this situation. The first "rule of thumb" taught in Officer Candidate School (OCS) is very simple and basic. Your Commanding Officer might not always be correct but he (she) is always the Commanding Officer. General McChrystal's comments to Rolling Stone were extremely unprofessional and quite frankly immature. The General would not have tolerated such behavior from his subordinates. Why should he expect anything different from the Commander-in-Chief?

From the outset it is instilled in officers that disagreement should be aired in a private sitting with the clear understanding that the final decision will always be made by the appropriate ranking officer.

When in doubt, resort to the following:

Rank has its privileges!

It is not in the best interest of the military establishment to have soldiers openly and wantonly questioning the motives and decisions of their superior officers!

This thread says far more about the politics of those who frequent SHMBs than it does about President Obama. The self-alerts are always appreciated though.

Silly Hooker Message Boards. I don't want to get into a political debate but it seemed pretty apparent on aspd that more Republicans than Democrats were willing to post in the political threads. I doubt if that's changed here. Of course there's nothing wrong with anyone deciding to discuss (or not discuss) their politics but the threads always seem pretty pointless. We're on a silly hooker message board taking time out of our days to complain about the idiocy of very powerful and successful people. No wonder they're where they are and we're where we are.

And how do you know we are not part of the pwerful and successful people? Regardless of where you think most of us fall in this food chain Obama is a fucking ass that is going to ruin this country.

As to your comment that more R's than D's posted to the political threads on ASPD and ECCIE I would have to disagree. It seems pretty balanced from the right and the left.

I think a lot of us have just as much contempt for the Republican Party as for the Democrats. Nowadays neither one of them seems good for much other than to prevent the opposing party from cramming through a ruinous agenda. It's hard to argue that George W. Bush was much less incompetent than Obama. Just look at the explosion of government spending on his watch -- as well as a whole collection of other failures. But Obama seems intent on stacking failure atop failure, leading us on a fiscal kamikaze mission.

As for myself, I'm a Libertarian. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one around here.

No kidding!

I doubt that many of us would want to put up with all the crap involved in running for political office, let alone take the pay cut connected with doing so.

It's certainly your right to be wrong.

You clearly didn't keep up with the political forums on aspd, particularly in Houston. To say they leaned to the right would be an extreme understatement. ECCIE appears to be much better.

But I did keep up with the political threads in Houston and I saw plenty of libs posting thier view points. What I have always found curious is that most liberals are afraid or ashamed to adimit they are liberals. On the other hand conservatives readily admit they are conservative.

You call it self-posted-alert, and we call it SCREENING. Not all $ is good, and life is too short to waste a moment.

If one can't think for oneself, I am sorry. The thing I love about our country is we are FREE to DISAGREE. It's a a bee-utiful thing!

I'd love to get a Libertarian as President along with a Senate and Congress that would support him. Could probably bring the country back to its original course.

Actually a better course as we have a much better understanding of what liberty and a free society are, what they require, and how to prevent corruption, than our founding fathers.
