Occam's Razor. The simplest solution is probably the correct one. That and the fact that the larger a conspiracy is the harder it is to keep it concealed.

This was a 2010 article and has been known for quite a while. Nothing seems to have happened recently though. Chances are that China will get the lock on Afghan resources once it is peaceful enough to extract them, but they aren't stupid enough to get too involved now. Let us do the work, pay the price and get bored with it, then they move in.
Just sayin...

I have doubts about well organized conspiracies.
I do believe in:
1) Unspoken conspiracies of twisted truth. We downplay or ignore evidence that doesn't suit our agenda, and exaggerate or believe weak evidenced that can be twisted to suit our agenda. Everyone goes along because they expect me to support them when they twist the truth for their own ends.
2) Taking advantage of tragedies after the fact. Whenever something bad happens, propose strategies that promotes our own political agenda and give us more totalitarian power and helps keep the peasants under control. Bundle in a lot of pork barrel projects and other evil measures with "must pass" legislation that is done while the public is hot to pass something and anyone who speaks out can be branded as a traitor.
Look at all the big brother stuff that got passed after 9/11.
3) Unspoken conspiracies of silence of the old boy network. When one member of the old boy politician/bureaucrat network catches another doing something wrong, it's often looked at as a way to get away with something of your own, not something to be stopped.
"Hey, Joe, I was looking at your bill, and I was concerned about this provision here. If you read it a certain way, it lets a bad cop wiretap without a warrant and no records. Is that true?" "No, no, you're reading it wrong, check it again." "OK, glad to know that. By the way, can you support me on my amendment? You had some concerns that it made it a little too easy for undocumented political contributions." "Oh, no, I looked at it again, and there was no cause for concern."
or
"Gee, Henry, my department says your department is having some problems with how you handled evidence on the Wilson case. What's going on there?" "Oh, we'll got that all straightened out, we just haven't been able to get it all documented yet because we've been working on how we can support your department on the Grace Park project."
Or to turn it the other way. "I know Joe is playing fast and loose with the truth, the law, and proper procedures, but he knows where my bodies are buried and he can take me down with him." or "I know Officer Jones is faking evidence, but if I say anything, I won't get any backup when I'm in a dangerous situation."

How's this for an Occam's Razor explanation:
We have crappy representation because most people are extremely uninformed or misinformed, many willfully.

If you are not joking about that first question, then you need to do some homework on how we project our influence on that region. You probably didn't know that we are sending in special forces all over Africa now...
About the WMDs - my point was that they knew it then too - it has all come out from many sources. They were going into Iraq and they fabricated convenient justification.
Whether you believe in a new world order or not, it should be pretty clear that the middle class is getting crushed and they are going right along with the program. And that the extremely rich via the corporations have more control than ever over the law and financial system. And it is accelerating not decelerating - and is coming directly at our expense as free people.
Alex Jones' point, however self serving it may seem, is: WAKE THE F* UP PEOPLE

I think it's pretty well established that there were no WMDs in Iraq.
And I still don't get what the government/elites gains from the "New World Order." Keeping people fat and happy is how you quell an uprising, be it bread and circuses or The New Deal.
Incumbents get reelected because of gerrymandering and inertia, among other things.

Ego maniac..at least that's the impression I got after meeting him some years ago. He's similar to the politicians that he criticizes, i.e. ideologues not interested in an objective search for the truth but just broadcasting stuff that supports their own preconceptions.
But then we have a little bit of Hitler in all of us.
