He should have remembered the saying it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I suppose most any employer would have canned someone who conducted themselves in such a manner. If they knew about it and it was a possible image liability . My employees understand that they represent their company on and off duty and that we expect that they act accordingly.
If a tech driving one of my vehicles acted that way. And I knew about it...
He or she would be mopping bathrooms into perpetuity .
My conduct here on this SHMB is not an accurate reflection on a RL level.

And I suspect that COG will not understand my factual point. He will yet again call me an idiot for pointing out the reality in a situtation.

And do you understand how stupid these people are that kept crying about it being a free speech issue? It is about who you work for issue. If you work for a person that let's you speak your mind you have a bit of free speech , I suppose.
I personally think Kris K got it right when he wrote this line in Bobby MaGee, "Freedom just another word for nothing left to lose...''
Think about it COG and get back with us before you hurl an insult.

I would never point that you are an idiot for pointing out the reality of anything. At least I don't think so. You have yet to understand the reality of anything, so I can't be sure.
The only reason I would ever call you an idiot, is because you are an idiot.
Happy now? Idiot.

You have no comprehension of what freedom of speech means, do you, WDF? It is a prohibition placed on Congress by the Constitution, and applied to the states by the 14th Amendment. It does not mean that employers have to allow their employees to say whatever they want.
Again, I'll ask. Would you let your employee promote a competitor? Would you let an employee berate a customer? Would you let an employee damage your brand or reputation?
Are you understanding the difference now, or are you willfully remaining ignorant?
You have the right for your speech to be protected from government interference. Others can choose for themselves how they will react to your speech. They can refuse to listen, or they can listen, and alter their behavior toward you based on what you say. In fact, if you piss off your boss, you will likely get fired. Some would say that is the reason most people get fired. Employers rarely fire people who do their job and comply with comply standards.
You are really showing yourself to be an ignorant, obtuse moron this time WDF.

Well, I can't say for certain that people who don't think like me are idiots. I've met a lot of people who hold different views, and many are thoughtful and intelligent. Not many of those here.
But I can say with a great deal of certainty that people who agree with me are generally NOT idiots.
And I'm sorry if the insult hurt your feelings. I know how civil you tend to be.

You are asking three different questions...but the jist is this.
What an employee did on their off time is not my business. That is how I roll. If you want to fire your employee's for what they do on their free time have at it. We are different in that regard, Thank God!
So on my dime I would not let them 'promote a competitor', 'berate a customer' or 'damage your brand or reputation'.
What they do off the clock is their business. That includes driving thur Chic Fil A and acting like a fool. They are not doing it in my name!
But then I am not a hypocritical Freedom spouting Liberty screaming fuc'n Control Freak like you and UB9IB6!

Freedom of speech applies only to government restrictions, and those vary depending on the type of speech. The only speech ostensibly unencumbered by government is political speech. The government has placed restrictions on advertising, and other forms of non-political speech. The SCOTUS has deemed these restrictions constitutional. Not that SCOTUS is always right, but that is the state of the law at this time.
There are a few restrictions on what an employer can or cannot require of an employee, and what grounds may be used to terminate an employee. Generally, most employees are "at will" employees, which means that the employer doesn't need a reason to terminate them. That's the way it should be. If you don't like the restrictions that an employer places on your behavior, find a different job. You have no right to have a particular job. When you work for someone, you have already given up a bunch of your rights. You allow your employer to tell you when to come to work, when to go home, when you can take vacation, when you can go to lunch, etc. And if the employer thinks that something you do on your off hours will hurt the business, the employer can terminate you. If you decide to knock over a liquor store after work, the employer may think such an action will reflect negatively on the business. If you decide to be an asshole and berate a fast food service employee for something over which she has no control, and then post that video on You Tube, your employer may fire you. "Hey, that asshole in the video, does he work for you?" "Well, uh, yeah he does." "You know, I thought that was a classless thing to do. I think I'll go to Company B across the street to do business with. I don't like associating with people like the kind you have working for you."
That has not a goddam thing to do with freedom of speech. Sorry, but those of you who think it does, really don't know what you're talking about.

So.. You're posting in a SHMB . Would you be upset if your daughter or son was found to be an active member or provider.
If it upsets you... You'd be a hypocrit also.
Yeah, I'm a hypocrit.. What's your point?

Do they have dunking stools at Chick-fil-A?
Chick-fil-A practices plenty of discrimination on its own. This lawsuit cost them a pretty penny and all because they insisted on making the Muslim guy pray in Jesus Christ's Name.
http://austin.ynn.com/content/top_stories/49360/houston-chick-fil-a-sued-by-employee
He says he was fired from his job at a Houston Chick-fil-A restaurant a day after he refused to pray to Jesus Christ during a training session in November 2000.
