And, did you see the in-car view that showed her at the wheel? Right before impact she raised both hands to either side of her head. That is experience showing. Race cars do not have any power assisted steering so when there is an impact that force translates all the way up through the steering column. Had she had her hands on that wheel during the impact she would have wound up with some very severe injuries to her hands arms and shoulders.
