Your point was the because research is funded by the Federal government, research is skewed to provide results as to what the government wants to see.
To support your point, you have provided an example of one effort a university takes in order to encourage proper conduct in performing grant funded research. Right, the employers of the researchers are telling them this is what they should not be doing.
Many of those articles deal with attempts by foreign entities, particularly China, attempting to obtain research information. A few deal with pharmaceutical or DME (oh, that’s what we call durable medical equipment in the industry) manufacturers rewarding practitioners for steering their products, which has nothing to do with research projects. Corrupt, yes. Involved with research, no. What I am not finding is a plethora of articles dealing with researchers skewing results in order to please government entities funding that research.
So here’s the thing. When the hospitals were full, and the clinicians were providing care for patients and illnesses they had no experience with, they wanted people to wear masks. They begged people to wear masks. They probably weren’t sure how effective it would be. Maybe only 5% against anything airborne. Maybe 0%. Maybe it only kept you from touching your nose and eyes, and really didn’t impact any airborne infection at all. But when you’re at capacity, 5% less counts. 1% less counts,
Most people didn’t have access to good masks, and apparently we no longer have the manufacturing capacity to produce the volume of quality masks that was necessary. But the cloth masks widely in use might have stopped a few cases. And it was not likely to do any harm. Maybe it felt a little uncomfortable, and maybe you could only wear it for a few hours at a time. But it wasn’t going to hurt you. Not like it hurt the clinicians when they were masking 12 hours a day, hoping theirs worked and they wouldn’t bring it home to their loved ones, Rubbing raw against their skin,
And the caregivers begged people to do it.
But some people can only think of themselves. They thought they knew better than everyone else, as though they had a medical or materials science degree. They couldn’t man up and wear the mask just to say “Hey, I recognize the caregivers and what they are going through, and I’m going to show my support for them, even if I don’t think this thing works, because they’re asking us to. I empathize with them enough that I will wear it.”
No. That was too much for some people. Too much of a price to pay. Their freedom was being infringed upon.
It’s all about them, and they are just so damn correct. I’m sure that you’re quite proud you’ve secured your rights an American.
And I hope that’s not what it means to be an American. I hope that being an American is partly about respecting your neighbor, and giving a hand when they’re getting their teeth kicked in.
You’re the guy that would have huddled in the back of the LST as it pulled up to Utah Beach. Let someone else do it. Let someone else take the sacrifice, That’s just stupid running out into a MG42 fire. The government is just trying to silence me. These Germans aren’t so bad..
