If you look at a map of Asia, you will see India and China are located right next to each other. As in they share a long border together and fight with each other sometimes for border territory. The problem is that people want everything to be very simple so they can file away different groups of people in their head. So Americans wants all Asians to look the same way because it's easier for them to understand. If you tell an American that Indians are Asians too, they will disagree with you. Also, why should all Asians look the same? Asia is the largest continent in the world. It makes far more sense that there are different ethnicities in the largest continent in the world rather than assuming that everyone in Asia looks the same.

I think with increasing Asian immigration, we will be forced to take a more nuanced view of Asians. It's SLOWLY happening with Latinos but some people still think a Mexican, Puerto Rican and Panamanian are all the same (they speak Spanish don't they...lmao).

Almost like the difference between a Scotsman, Canadian and American. To our ears they sound very distinct. I'm sure many bilingual Latinos, say someone of Mexican descent, can tell fairly quickly if someone is from another Spanish speaking nation besides Mexico.
