I AGREE! Screw their questions. They test that blood so much, there's no chance of something slipping through the cracks.

I used to donate platelets for people undergoing bone marrow transplants, so they couldn't produce their own. It takes 2 hours and they put garden hose needles in both of your arms.

Blood products are sorely needed, especially yours Elisabeth.

NM I'm not suggesting it's ok to waist resources at all. I'm all for them saving money so long as it trickles down to the consumer. Blood donations is a billion dollar industry. According to red cross they take in over 6 million units of blood per year. It cost them $130-$150 per unit to process and they sell it for $300-$600 depending on the market. Hospitals charge 3-4 times that to give it to patients.

I don't suggest everyone just hook up and start giving either. Simply if an individual feels compelled to donate and they know they will produce a good donation then they should go ahead and do it.

Yes, there are several personal health benefits to giving blood. To name a couple it reduces blood viscosity and improves blood flow. This reduces the risk of blockage and puts less stress on the heart. It also reduces the iron level in the blood. Higher iron levels causes oxidative stress on the cardiovascular system and hardens the arteries. So that translates into a better boner for you and you're less likely to have a heart attack while banging the next fresh hottie in the WW.

Narcissist? No, just trying to do a little good in the world.

Hero, hardly unless you take my health advice and it improves your sessions.

I want to thank everyone who gives blood, plasma and platelets. I got really sick in 2014 due to a chronic condition, and I had to have a total of 4 units of A- over 2 wks, plus two bags of iron. So thanks to my A- donors.

Here's an article on gay men that has some interesting stats in it. I wonder what similar stats would be for people answering "Yes" to the having paid sex questions?

I know the red cross is getting a bad rep, i am sure you are right, and so it is disgusting.
I was out of line, sorry about that.

But we high risk people should stay out of the mix.

What's really 'high risk', adults having responsible, albeit with multiple partnered sex, or someone who does't have a lot of sex, but takes a lot of pills, or someone who works in the oil business, etc?? There are different ways to have a jacked up blood system.

My only point is the high risk of people that hobby, that is all of us in this site. I belong to this lovely group.
Now, about usage of forbidden items, i dont belong to that group, so I dont comment on them...
The oil business is a high risk? How so?

I was thinking those that work in mining the oil, and coal, too. Of course, worker protection has gotten better over the years, but absorbing that shit into your skin can't be healthy, I'd surmise.

Then again, maybe I'm overthinking it.

Heathy or not may have nothing to do with your blood

EW, you should be able to donate regardless. You've prolly got that sweet blood - bet you're a mosquito magnet!!

Hee-hee, j/k. Great coed thread. Thank you for contributing a thread worthwhile.

All good answers. Responsible public health practice should require them to test samples for everyone. You can't blame them for trying to screen for high risk groups if data supports it could lower operational costs, but since people can be ignorant, incorrect, or deceptive about their health...then we're right back to: they should be screening everyone for the public health. (It would be interesting to see data for the integrity of their testing, meaning statitistics for false-positives and false-negatives, per disease.)

I say go donate. If they reject yours, then they reject yours. No one likes rejection, but you'll get over it - and your body will make more.

Peace,
LnH

I disagree with blanket rejecting homosexuals (a monogamous, safe practice following anybody is low(er) risk), but the rest of the questions are based on legitimate science . Certain groups are statistically more prone to have certain diseases. And while all blood is tested to a degree, all tests including that one have false negatives, so one can slip through the cracks. If you start with the lowest percent of disease in what you draw, less chance of one slipping by.

I just don't donate because I don't want to have to honestly answer those questions or have a surprise positive that is reported to the state health department. It is not anonymous.
