It's hard to explain because Socialism isn't a way of life in America and I don't think too many people can come up with a realistic model of what American Socialism would be like. So that being the case, I provided a link with some information on Sweden. Sweden along with Norway, Finland and Denmark. enjoy great success in their Democratic Socialist economy. Their success is based on measures of equality in wealth redistribution. They do achieve that through high taxation on income, high sales tax and 25% of their GDP goes to welfare programs in comparison to ours which is about 15%. Now keep in mind Sweden has an overall population of only 9.5 million America is 320 million. What would we have to do to implement a Democratic Socialist economy that has the success rate of Sweden? Raise taxes no doubt, both income and sales taxes. Money would have to come from every area in order to provide free healthcare, free education ect. Redistribution of wealth would be a major priority for success of a Democratic Socialist system in America. Could Socialism work in America? Maybe, maybe not. I agree with anyone who feels the poverty level in this country is shameful, especially due to the trillion dollars spent every year on total bullshit, while people stand in line for food stamps, that's not Socialism or Capitalism, that's modern day slavery. There's no doubt our economic system needs to make changes whether it be through Socialism or trimming the fat off our currant crony Capitalist system. Every system has it's drawbacks. Under Socialism, America would lose something and even gain something. The key is what we would lose or gain and what the pros and cons would be.
