An editorial by Melissa Petro, a former school teacher who lost her job when she wrote a piece for the Huffington Post revealing that she had previously worked as a stripper and provider, about her view on the realities of sex work.

We should honor these ladies as mothers, daughters and human beings who are victimized rather than as sex workers.

While our collective opinion may be that prostitution should be legalized it is still in fact a crime in Texas.

That being said it will always be a challenge getting any lawmaker to publicly make a stand on behalf of the rights of active criminals.

Violence against anyone is clearly wrong and violators should be accountable to the full extent of the law however good luck garnishing any empathy or sympathy from the system or even society as a whole.

Unlike burglary prostitution actually benefits society. That is when it is transparent and legal. When it isn't it becomes a breeding ground for the less savory element of pimps, crazies, scammers etc.

As far as social perception goes those who partake in the less savory and criminal element of society knowingly accept the risks that come with it.

Legalization of prostitution is probably where the End of violence toward sex workers Begins.

I'm sure many sick minds out there believe they are justified in their violence. In their twisted perception they believe they are doing society a service by victimizing "criminals".

The trick is in ever getting prostitution legalized in a bible belt state. Not likely.
