FREE PHOTOGRAPHY + $ + FUN

This guy is very unprofessional! He sent me a pm yesterday telling me pretty much that my photo's suck and that he could do a better job!
Talking about cell phone shots...WTF, if you were a photographer you would of just grabbed my photo's and saw for yourself in lightroom...ain't no selfies with phones over here! When I responded to you...you starting in on what exposure and lenses do I use...you are not my mentor...why would you ask unless you need the tips!

Then he claims he had no idea I was a photographer...Clearly under my name and in my showcase it stats that I am a photographer! Don't do much research do ya! I can care less if you really knew or not...but your un-professionalism sucks! After I told you I was a photographer you continued to say my photo's suck!
I am by far the best photographer here on eccie, I still have crap loads to learn...and I'm sure I will still be learning them years to come, but what I won't do is PM a newbie photographer and tell them how horrible their photo's are...just not right in my eyes!

Yeah. I would agree about bashing anyone's photography. People shoot differently, and there are plenty of ways to 'get it right'. I would never say to another photographer that his or her work sucks. It's just not the verbiage I would use...unless the photo is just RIDICULOUSLY bad...hehe (you can 'critique' their work, not rip it to shreds). I doubt anyone here or anyone who's spent good money on worthy equipment is a terrible photographer. I won't profess to be the baddest photographer walking the earth (in my mind I may think that ). I still have things to learn.

I have taken pictures of a provider, but the issue of usage and ownership became such a shit storm that i decided against posting them. What seems to be the meat and potatoes of the issues here, and in my specific case, is that both sides want to use the pictures. The lady needs them to further her business. The photographer needs them as proof of skills to further his/her business. What troubles me is how BOTH sides can't understand this in some instances.

Seriously, why would a photographer pay 1,000's of dollars for equipment to give away FREE pictures? I pose this question to potential customers. We want to make money off our work and the time and effort we put into this.

I understand that ladies may want discretion. I think that's a simple fix before any pictures are released/displayed anywhere. Blurring faces and tattoos is easy. Again, this should be a mutual agreement ahead of time.

After reading this thread, it almost feels like too much of a hassle dealing with the process of copyrights, ownership, and usage. I want to make sure I know what I'm doing from a business standpoint, to where both parties are satisfied.

In parting, I ask again, why would a photographer want to take pictures that he/she can't use in the future? Not trying to be a smartass with this question. If anyone has the perfect answer, please feel free to enlighten.

Practice is one reason, and the simple enjoyment of a creative outlet. Even though I don't get to do it often, most of the providers I contact to shoot here are easier to work with and more responsive than the majority of MM "models".

I don't like not showing faces since that's what interest me the most, so, unless it's a lady I've seen who asks for some free shots, I only approach those who show their faces, are well reviewed/respected, and usually those who don't use professional photographers (though I've made one exception to that last rule). I only ask via PM, never in open forum.

I agree though, when a lady decides she no longer wants her pictures out there it can be a bummer not to be able to share some of my best photos. But, hey, it's a hobby. At least I don't throw my camera against a tree if I don't like a shot the way I've seen some golfers do!

I have about 3 grand of lenses and lights. And my body was 1200. I take Amateur photos, mostly as a hobby to enrich myself. I have taken many free pictures to try to better my photography tho I have some paper contracts and an app on my phone to give rights to the subject. I have even touched some up in lightroom/photoshop/gimp2 also free, I have never attempted to sell or trade my service though, I need the practice and since most of the girls interested are not using professional shots to begin with the image quality is easy to improve on. Originally I wanted to keep the photos, but it doesn't take an expert eye to spot unprofessional work. I wouldn't want to try to exhibit a portfolio of mediocre shots. I never intend to sell prints or make a go at living behind the camera. But it is a fascinating hobby and I enjoy it. I have done free photography for car dealerships, strippers, camgirls, one provider tho I didn't know it at the time, high schools, budget weddings, mom and pop food joints, ebay sellers, churches and all sorts of other random situations. In the end they come out better than camera phone/point and shoot shots, and tho a real photographer could out shoot my nice dslr with a Kodak easy share probably, there aren't a plethora of people earnestly willing to spend their time without a motive aside from practice. And a pro even less likely. I would not string code for a website for free, or cater BBQ at a party/event for free. But I can do those things on a pro level.
