I'm more then happy to pay a professional for their work, and will only deal with photographers that treat their work like a business, not a way to get laid cheap. If a photographer initiates the bartering conversation, he's guaranteed to be turned down and loose the possibility of having me as a paying client.

It reminds me of porn directors who tell new girls they want to audition them in private before putting them on set
Sounds like a double standard there Summersault.....:th umbdown:

If I'm a successful in demand professional & someone wants my valuable services & all they offer in return in a lay, isn't that kind of "highly offensive" as well to me as well???

I always introduce such ladies to online photography networks where they will trade for prints and often sign a release form written to the models specifications, preventing them from publishing without permission or revealing their identity. And they don't have to sleep with anyone. Granted, availability of such photographers depends on how much work you're willing to do to find the right person and what city you live in.

I could very well be wrong in my opinion on this as it's based on personal reaction - I think offering to barter with a lady who can't afford her pictures is taking advantage of her state of poverty. If it is really in the interest of helping her, not getting another notch on the photographer's belt, he can do the pictures on a small deposit and wait until she's had a head start and can pay the balance of his regular fees. If he doesn't trust she'll pay, well then it really isn't any interest in helping "her". It's a broad way to justify seeing the ladies the photographer wants without having to pay anything.

Wonder if it would be presumptuous of me to ask Santillo to barter?

You're assuming I offer bartering. I don't barter period - I don't accept offers and I don't make them. I believe in paying professionals for their services.

I only mentioned the condition where ladies make the offer because I know other women are comfortable with it.

You really don't see the 2x standard, do you?

No I don't. I pay anytime I contact a professional for their services and expect to be paid for anything I offer on a professional basis as well. So where's the double standard?

Could you lay out where you see this double standard? I mean explaining your accusation rather than brushing off questions about it.

Her response was:

This is after she started the whole back and forth by posting:

Which I take to mean it is ok for someone in her profession to approach someone in another profession about barter, but the reverse is "highly offensive." Lauren, what have I missed?

Or perhaps she is OK with the choices others make. Everyone to their own. She just doesn't (for herself) agree with this choice.

I think it is fair to say that Lauren doesn't barter because she doesn't have to. If I am offering a photo shoot for $200 to $300 and a provider offers me a $200 to $300 session in exchange for it because she needs to hang on to her $200 to $300 cash so she can pay the rent this month, I don't see a problem with it and I can accept the offer or not. The problems arise when the hobbyist is not offering something of equal value or the provider fails to live up to her end. That's the risk.

I think you're missing me entirely.

I think it should be up to the lady to ask only because women like myself find being approached for bartered services highly offensive. As the photographer, by initiating the conversation they risk loosing a client who would pay market value for their services and stop any chance of word of mouth recommendations.

Now if they don't depend on the photography world for income or erotic nudes are not the core business, it probably doesn't matter if you're harming potential income. It would be really nice though, if I could communicate to photographers to stop sending such offers. Alas, they surf the net looking for women they want to bed and don't really read the websites of the women they contact.
