marfan's syndrome
If you notice bin-Ladin when seen in the more recent films of him taken before 9-11 he is seen walking with a cane.
That was over ten years ago and his disease had progressed.
Frankly it's a miracle that he was even alive as of a week ago.
His symptoms, including kidney distress, were well documented.
It is because of this that several very credible retired intl figures familiar with him have cast doubt that he could have been alive this recently, but I am accepting he was.
I'll bet anyone of us on this board could have subdued him and his girlfriend/wife in that room without having to shot them. We have been very poorly served by the SEALS...once again. Their antics however will be spun into glory for the sake of the Navy and Obama.
ps Before I hear from too many Navy defenders let me say my father was Navy, ONI, was sheepdipped into OPC during Korea, was a Korea POW, then served in Guatamala in 1954, etc. I grew up with that aspect of the Navy.

It was a kill or capture mission.
Kill missions are not given to SEALS.
Kill missions today are given to CIA or Pentagon Special Action Program teams, which are truely secret [unlike the SEALS]. CIA uses drones for the most part, and SAP uses uniformed servicemen. Each lethal finding must be approved and signed by the President.

I'm sorry but it WAS a kill mission, it was reported that he surendered with his hands up and was then shot, which I'm fine with as he got what he deserved. I'm just sayin!

1.It was initially reported on all the wires that it was a kill-or-capture order. Otherwise and unfortunately there is no confirmation regarding what really happened...if he attempted to surrender or not, etc. is all coming from sources which have contradicted themselves and been caught lying before.
2.There is no legitimate reason for there to be a kill order on anyone senior in al-Qaeda. All the senior people are of intense intelligence interest and need to be taken for interrogation. This is a given.
The only possible reason why there could be a kill order on bin-Laden would be to silence him because his information might be counter to what certain people would want revealed.
3.Kill orders are made on targets [people] who are considered of little intelligence interest and otherwise cannot be captured because it would involve the kind of effort the SEALS undertook to confront bin-Laden. If you're going to go to all the trouble of confronting someone face to face and have the ability to "snatch" him, then a kill or capture order is what's used.
In terms of whether someone "deserves" to die or not, that is a matter of opinion. Today's terrorists are often tomorrow's statesmen, and whether someone is a terrorist or a freedom fighter only depends on which side of the fence you happen to be on at any particular time. "Terrorism" is a tactic - not a strategy, a cause, or an end in itself.
When I did government work in Pakistan in the 1980s we championed and supported bin-Laden and all others like him because his efforts were at that time directed against our adversaries. Terror and counter-terror is a game [a sick game]; it is not a moral issue except to the public, and the public is often misled.

Interesting poll but the results are not in step with what more mainstream polls are showing. NBC just reported that their latest polling shows 64% agree with the decision not to release the photos and 29% disagree.

Even the Ultra Liberal former VP, Dick Cheney, said that he "can't quarrel with" Obama's decision to not release the photos.

Yeah, you are probably right! Ol' Buckshot Dick wishes the photos of poor ol' Harry Whittington were never released for public consumption. It stands to reason that he would not want pics of OBL released!

maybe its just that most Americans feel its highly likely there is 1 less suicide bombing or other attack as a result, therefore its a good idea to not release them
