Agree 100% He was already declining the last time he played. Hes no martyr either! He only took his position for the attention and money. We shouldnt forget he got a large sum of money from his lawsuit of the nfl that was settled out of court.

The NFL was setting him up for bullshit with their controlled workout and he changed the narrative. He won't get an NFL job, but I doubt he gives a shit. He has Nike money coming in now. And he just gave another big "fuck you" to the NFL by telling them that they won't control him. I never gave a shit about the guy either way before, but I do like him now. He puts his money where his mouth is. Very few people can say the same.

I believe the "valid cause" morphed.
The original protest was over the "hands up don't shoot" controversy which was a lie.
That devolved to "cops suck".
Now it comes across as "fuck the usa".
Yeah, a cause to be proud of.

And I know I’m gonna catch shit for this but for him act like an oppressed black man is the biggest joke of all. White mom. Gave him up. Black dad. Bailed on him. Raised by a nice comfortable white family who gave him everything and he grew up in an affluential
neighborhood.

And come on. When we stand for the national anthem, we are standing up for our military as well. It’s a sign of respect. The national Anthem doesn’t have shit to do with police brutality

As an American, Kaepernick has every right to sit during the playing of the national anthem. As an American, we are allowed to take that right for granted.

I have no problem with Kaepernick using his platform as a highly visible athlete to draw attention to a social cause; it’s been done time and again, whether it was Jackie Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown - and sometimes with great success.

My bigger issue with Kaepernick is has he done anything other than sit and talk? Is he doing something other than stating that racial inequality is a major problem that continues to exist despite our advanced society?

It is one thing to state it, and quite another to do the necessary leg work to work the problem.

Lmao. Ohhhh. My bad. A celebrity donating money to charities. That’s. New concept. Dude made over 43 million dollars in his 6 year career with the niners. Congrats on making it public by donating 10,000 at a time. Not to mention the lawsuit money and Nike money. How generous of him. I donate to some charities as well. Clothes and money but I don’t have NFL money so it’s not even close to 1 mil. I do what I can afford ! I Am involved in things like toys for tots and volunteer at a woman’s shelter for battered and abused woman. Do I do enough? Hell no.

Donating cash is not exactly what I would call leg work. Dude is worth around 20 mil.

There’s people who have suffered injustice or lost loved ones in a tragic way, out there pushing for new laws and activity trying to change things.

So again. What has Kap done? Got a nice tax break and publicly donated money congrats.
Look at JJ watt. He does so much for our city. Raises money. Donates money and gets out and helps where he can. Plus tons of stuff behind the scenes.

It’s one thing to “kneel and bitch”. It’s another thing to do the leg work and make shit happen. JFS!

Let me educate you and your friends as it's what I do. Just like you dont want anyone quantifying your monetary contribution dont try to quantify his. He makes millions and he gives away millions. Do you make thousands and give away hundreds?

Fact is he's a dam good football player. Took his team the the Superbowl once and was one pass or play from taking them twice. Most QB's will never accomplish that. Also lets not lose focus of his mission. Which was protesting police brutality and social injustice. Kneeling before a flag is as American as it gets it's the very definition of freedom. Soldiers dont go to war for you to sing or stand before the anthem they go to war so you can Express your freedom anyway you desire. Do you baby boomers and old folks understand this concept? Why is it so hard for you to grasp this?

To your point. What has Kap done? I've been waiting for someone to ask this question. His charitable contributions aside let's talk about the effect of his kneeling which is possibly the greatest most effective protest in American history.

A recent huffpost article states that there's been 378 killed since Kap took a knee. Kap took a knee in Aug of 2016. The article was written in May of 2018. So about 18 months ago. Let's assume in the the last 18 months since the article was written another 378 just to be generous. 378 x2 = 756. So since Kap knelt there's "been" 756 black deaths due to cop shootings. Here's the rub.... Now the article also states since 2015 there's been 3,357 cop killings 3,357- 756 = 2,601 deaths prior to Kap kneeling. So what has Kap's protest done? Its clearly resulted in less cop killings of black people especially unarmed black people. What else direct impact? Since Kap knelt every Presidential candidate has made police reform and social justice part of their Presidential platforms. Outside of MLK and the Civil Rights movement name for me another peaceful protest that has had such an affect. You asked and I answered. Now que the angry faces mad at my rebuttal because it's on point. Calm down go have some coffee.

I'm not gonna let yall disrespect my brother with Psuedo science. ;-)

Step up yalls debate game

And when history is all said and done..JJ Watt will be a footnote to Colin Kaepernick. Its already a done deal. Kap is known globally for leading real protests while JJ is Houstons own giving away toys and shooting hamburger commercials. There is no comparison. Kap has made real sacrifices JJ has not. Those are facts.

I think it is fair to say that he overestimated his value in the league. He's a barely above average QB who the owners are obviously not willing to sign due to his possible negative impact on their bottom line.

He will have a legacy though and you can't put a price on that. He stood up for what he believes in and I respect that. He already made his millions and he'll keep making millions with or without the NFL.

There is a lot of truth in what you're saying Lucas...and yes, he did take advantage of his platform. He also suffered the consequences of it...that is if he really wanted to stay in the NFL. He's a smart enough guy that he had to realize there would be negative consequences.

His legacy was the point of the stunt he pulled. I don't believe he really wants to play in the NFL. I don't think he believes he still can. Not based on that workout and certainly not based on the fact that he basically kicked sand in the collective face of the NFL.

What he needs is to remain relevant and continue building that legacy of wronged NFL player turned social justice warrior. Right now he is making plenty of money on that. He had fallen out of the conversation and this was a way to get back in it and ensure the money stays rolling in for a little while longer. What happens when he turns 35 and still hasn't played a down? Will he still be relevant then? I think he'll be dropped like a hot potato in the next couple of years because his name won't mean anything in the NFL. He'll need a new angle.

I don't think he's much of a leader either. He's probably being advised by a team of handlers with their own agendas in mind. Nike for instance has a financial stake in him. It was good business for them to put him on that field. It keeps his name out there for them. He was convinced that it was good for his relevance to do it. It was a calculated maneuver to get his name back out there for both of them and a little bit of a fuck you to the NFL by him.

FTR I support his right to protest but not the way he or any of them went about it. The field is not the proper platform. The post game presser is not the proper platform. Those guys have days off during the season. They have personal time after their games. They have weeks and months during the off season. They represent their team on the field and in the press room a couple hundred hours a year. That leaves about 8500 hours of their time to do what they want. If they want to protest something I support their right to do it, ON THEIR TIME.

They have a huge platform just by their name and can garner plenty attention on that alone. If that gets them some time on Sportscenter or the evening news then more power to them.

What I don't want is to sit down to relax and escape my own problems for a few hours by watching a ball game and have to see or hear about their personal grievances ON MY TIME. I'm the consumer of what they are selling. I'm not buying social protests of any kind right or left. I'm buying entertainment the way I want to be entertained. I turned the NFL off for two years because of it. I'm glad to see the NFL pushing back a little.

I wouldn't go see a provider if I knew she was going to start whining about some kind of social justice campaign. Watching a ball game is no different.

The difference is that Watt does it on his time.

I don't recall him raising money for Harvey relief during a game or during a presser. In fact, I think when that campaign was going on he actually deflected those questions and redirected to football.
So yeah, there is no comparison.

That's because you're a commoner and commoners never understand what it takes to be great. You are a sidelines kind of human. You will never understand that ype of courage, bravery, and sacrifice of men like Kap. You were raised to be fearful and in subjection of the powers that be...and your rant is proof in the pudding.

Lmao. This is cracking me the fuck up. Hold my beer SC! First of all. If you actually believe that because a man who grew up with this so called White privilege is the sole reason for the police reform laws because he took a knee during America’s national anthem you’re more special than I thought. Let’s look at the facts sweetheart. Social media is the main reason word about everything is getting out. Everything is videoed and posted and shared. It causes social uproar and brings awareness to the public. The news people pick it up and spreads it even more. Hard for congress and the president not to notice. Ya think maybe just maybe that might be huge reason for the changes in recent years?

Look at the shit than stems from social media. Ice bucket challenge was really the beginning. And it raised a ton of money for ALS.

And go back and look at Kaps stats after 2016. Alex smith has a lot to do with getting to the super bowl. Kap stepped into a team that was already leading the division They had a great O line and D. He’s lucky too cuz he isn’t great in the passing department. He scrambles and runs. Put him on a team with a sub par D and see how well he does.

Anyway. Back on the road. Gotta get my work on. Thanks for the laugh though. It’s much appreciated

Typing long manifesto's as to why dont get it is not a good look.

And pivoting to a "social media" excuse is even worse.

1st off Kap is biracial but if we apply the US Congress 'one drop' rule then he's 100% black. Despite whatever priviledge you think he may have had growing up it's like Max Kellerman said: "What am I to do with my privilege"? And Kap has clearly chose to stand with the oppressed and less fortunate.

Your excuses are lame. He's using the media available to him in the 21st century. Same way that idiot in the White House keeps tweeting and using modern technology to dispense US policy agenda. Kap's protest was brilliant in that it stuck at the heart strings of those on both sides of the isle. It was a brilliant move and one that cost him personally. He's put his money where his mouth is. Not many men are capable of that.
