All this talk about Mexican food has got me wanting it. Going to Gloria's tonight for some enchiladas.

Tara, if you're ever east of Rockwall, try Tamales in Greenville. Right off I30.

Lola, give El Asadero on Main St. a try. It's in between the Stockyards and LaGrave field. Best table salsa I've ever had.

Yup, at least in Fort Worth Mexican Inn is still around. There are 2 of them that I know of, one on Henderson (right before entering downtown) and the other is on Camp Bowie (this is the larger one).
Admittedly I only ever go to Esperanza's for brunch on Sunday with the rents after church (love the chorizo con huevo). I think I've only ever had something from their lunch menu a couple of times. I think there panaderia is pretty good but I have the habit of getting the same thing every time.
|
Back in the day, I would get dragged to the Mexican Inn location near downtown. It was good for resolving a bout of constipation but that is about it.
My favorite at Esperanza's was the chicken enchiladas with green chile sauce and a Mexican Coke. Would pick up some goodies from the Panaderia on the way out for my staff and secretaries. Good times.
Now I'm in Dallas where everything is chain this and franchise that. And the place where I go near my office to get my Italian fix, the gravy over my penne resembles something from Chef Boyardee. Despicable.

San Diego Tacos on Story Road, about a mile south of 183.
If anyone here's a transplant from Southern California, go here to get the carne asada burrito that you've been craving from 'berto's.
If you're not from SoCal, just know that all over the place there are great taco stands that usually end in "berto": Alberto's, Roberto's, Gilberto's, etc... You can get a big ol' carne asada (seasoned, chopped steak) burrito for just a couple of bucks at any of them and be satisfied for lunch. Couple it with Aguas de Melon (a cantaloupe drink), or Jamaica Tea, or Horchata and you can't ask for a more authentic Mexican lunch. Fancy? No. Delicious? OMG, just go have one!

There's a San Diego Tacos owned by the same family on MacArthur and Valley Ranch near the Cowboys offices.

Mi Dia in Grapevine is great. High dollar but the chef is born and raised in Mexico City. If you want to get the better deal for your buck there is a place called El Paisa on Harry Hines and Northwest Hwy. Multiple locations in dallas but this one is the best.

Lola, try the Original on camp Bowie. Also, salsa fuego is very good. It's an old fast food place turned into a badass restaurant. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it's awesome. Just get a burrito smothered and you will find out.

A lot of the restaurants listed are Tex Mex, not Mexican. I'm guessing many of you have never been outside Texas, much less to Mexico?
