DecemberLove, you are very wise to take that position. Within only a year or two there is going to be facial recognition software available that will scour the Internet for pictures of you. If anyone is putting up pictures with clear face shots that you can't take down or that others might be copying, you better hope that you don't age gracefully, otherwise your photos will be searchable based on the latest snapshot someone takes of you, whether they are in the hobby or not.
Remember –– the data we're putting on the Internet today will be used by more advanced applications in the near future. Tineye is just an example of the tip of the iceberg. Shazzam is the audio equivalent but it's all just the same kind of bit pattern scanning.
My advice to all who may want to plan for the future is this:
1. Don't post a compromising photo with your face in it that you wouldn't want your kids/friends/family/boss to be able to search in a few years. Stop now. If you can take down the pictures that are posted, do it.
2. If you post a clear picture of your face, do so in a separate conservative picture that you would be happy posting anywhere. That way if anyone ever does a face rec search, you can always take the position that someone copied your pic from a facebook page, or something like that. Leave yourself an out.
I'm not trying to suggest how anyone should run their business, just providing some input and recommendations. Some seriously good facial recognition software is going to start rolling out over the next few years.
