Doesn't matter....we have plenty of oil. Dumbass Canadians can fuck up their environment if they want. I want no part of strip mining.

You don't do strip mining. You dig trenches, put in the pipeline, and then cover them up. The footprint is small. The Keystone pipeline would be 30" in diameter, and once they cover it up and restore the surface it's not noticeable. Pipeline is safer than rail and truck too, although it's debatable which poses the least risk to the environment.
Getting the OK to build pipelines is probably a bigger issue for natural gas than oil. You have utilities in the northeast burning coal and fuel oil because there's not enough gas pipeline capacity in that part of the world. And coal and, to a lesser extent, fuel oil, emit more carbon per BTU than natural gas.

Thank you ftw - DPST's never learn that anal retentive fixation is not a response in reasoned debate.
Tiny knows the oil/gas topic .
Ftw does not.
Green New Deal (Soylent) - fascist DPST's are keeping this topic under the rug and not debated - they realize the real rationale for it is - DPST One party domination and socialist control on a Venezuela level. And all the DPST candidates believe in it.
Read the document - it is a fourth grade level piece of writing - a fantasy in which government controls all people in America - jobs, houses, transportation, education, and every facet of life
Bernie and AOC's dream society!

I was referencing the process as to how the oil slated for this particular pipeline was extracted.

I grew up where more pipelines are laid than almost anywhere else in the country....I know about pipelines.

I have no idea his experience in the field but he mistook what I meant by strip mining. Had you a clue about the business, you'd of picked up on that mix up.

It's a total fantasy. I haven't looked at the math but suspect you could raise all taxes (local, federal, state) so that every man, woman and child was directly and indirectly paying 60% of income and the country would still go bankrupt. You skipped the part about universal, high-quality health care, which undoubtedly would cost 20%+ of GDP.

As you know...I have no love for Bernie or Warrens economics.....but the bankruptcy part caught my attention as we are currently running Trillion dollar deficits and our 23 trillion on the hook....

This is related to our recent discussion about interest rates. Whether we're bankrupt or not will depend on the level of interest rates. Our ratio of government debt to GDP is around 105%. Japan's is 236% but there hasn't been a meltdown because people believe Japanese interest rates will continue to be low. Hell, if you can charge negative rates like the Japanese government, you make money when you grow the debt. I wouldn't want to be in their position though. And I don't feel comfortable with our national debt either.

Which was my point.
Were we actually to have a decent Fed rate....say 3-4% , you'd see the stock market bubble bust.
But investment bankers run this country as you can see so maybe we are headed to a Japan redo.
Do you think either party will ever address the debt?

Not until forced to. At some point I think there will be a Greek style financial crisis and then we'll have to.
