He's a puppet, start with that.

I put the far right is the problem. Without them- Trump goes away. No support for a guy whom is supported despite demonstrating an inability to lead, or to create consensus, or build bridges- it's literally the hate party.
"We will support anyone or anything in order to get what we want."
Just tell us what concerns you have MR. Conservative??
Lawbreakers? No problem
Adulterer? No- we all do that - mentally or literally!
Liar? Whats a little white lie between freinds.
Manipulator? That's the American way!
Ragist? When angry doesn't get it done. Rage -away!
Un-informed? We will let ya know what you need to know.
Cares about people? Only if they are like us. (look like us)
Even Tempered? What are you my mother or a priest?
Cares about womens rights? Keep em in the Kitchen- barefoot n pregnant.

I don't believe he's much of an existential threat to the USA. He is an existential threat to the oil and gas industry and my community. Based on his 2020 campaign platform and suspension of drilling permits on federal leases, he had embarked on a path to eliminate the domestic industry. However, the courts and political considerations (i.e. higher gasoline prices) stopped him in his tracks.
If I were subject to his proposed mark-to-market capital gains tax, then he'd be an existential threat to my freedom to live where I want. I spend about a man month a year now working on preparing my taxes, and with the imposition of mark-to-market it would be more like half the year. I'd rather live in another country or waste myself rather than do that.

I would like to test that theory. We'll see what happens if Trump isn't re-elected. I can't imagine one guy alone being that big of a threat to this nation.

I don’t think one person can be an existential threat either, but so far 36 percent of the votes indicate that people think Joe Biden is such a threat.
From my point of view it indicates that conservatives are more interested in the politics of the poll rather than the actual issue. ie the politics are more important than actual dangers like climate change or nuclear war. I guess winning an election is more important than dying in a nuclear fire.

Not claiming it's Trump. I sad it was the far right! They are on a mission of getting the guy who keeps them in power regardless of his moral failings, or stupidity or derangement, etc. They just don't care.
Evangelicals don't care he's a 3x adulterer or more, and they support him.
The laws he's broken, and the lawsuits he's lost- The Maga movement doesn't care-...He's like us!
The absolute hate that he spews out, about poisoning the blood- straight out of the Mein Kompf book.
If the right didn't support this type of shit- there would be no Trump. They don't hold him accountable, because deep down, they don't hold themselves accountable or to those standards.
Imagine leaving your young family members with this guy- or your college freshman daughter with him? "perhaps he'd be dating her". per Trump- If you wouldn't leave those folks with Trump, why would you trust your country to him?
The threat isn't Trump- it's those ppl who enable him to exist.

The road still leads back to Trump because you really don't know who those people are who enable him to exist.

Globally, I'd vote climate change. There are non-believers, but I think the exponential growth of atmospheric pollution, oceanic pollution, and deforestation we've caused due to industrialization especially in the recent 100 yrs is beyond Mother Nature's ability to maintain ecological equilibrium as we have known it for centuries.....so she will adjust to a new equilibrium that we may not like. I say globally, because correction requires world wide change which is unlikely until circumstances are dire, if then.
Nationally, I agree with erosion of society probably beginning in the 60's. The minority LGBT groups currently take the brunt of the heat, but it seems to me that the biggest breakdown since the 60s is change in the typical family unit, leading to more lax upbringing of offspring.....much higher divorce rate (and accepted as normal now when almost shamed in the 50s)...single parents who struggle to satisfy both work and family duties, unwed mothers, children raised by grandparents, etc. That, coupled with the "free spirit" movement starting in the 60s has led to a more self-centered outlook in general and decline in consideration of the needs of others and society as a whole...the "ME" generation started long before it was labeled. This is all reflected in today's politics and the lack of respect given to opposing views and unwillingness to compromise the wants of "ME" to accommodate the needs of others....public labeling, name calling, cursing, etc. Rarely happened before the 60s when tact and actual substance in political debate was the rule. Our political process is the key to the continuation of the empire, but history repeats itself, and we may well be repeating the mistakes of the ancient Roman Empire and more modern German State.

Excellent post reddog. I was surprised no one mentioned or voted for global warming/climate change or destruction of the environment up until now. I believe we'll come up with mitigation measures to cope with whatever's coming, so wouldn't put them at the top of my list. Here's a reply to Txdot on climate change. It goes into more detail, although admittedly it's partisan.

As to the second part, the existential national threat, very well said. It's better than most editorials in national newspapers. While nuclear war is at the top of my list, I strongly agree with what you're saying.

Gentlemen some good debate which I enjoy however respectively you are all wrong! The biggest threat to the USA is the National Debt!! Hands down the number one concern. So much of a worry that a few years ago over 100 retried Flag Officers took out an add to tell the entire Country why it was such a concern.
I am just a knuckle dragging grunt so there is no way I can explain why so I will just inc. this link:

Personally I think there are so many threats it's hard to put one ahead the other.

... Lemme say - GOOD posts from most-everyone here!
Surely might be a number of actual "threats" - not just one.
