I am wondering why they never allowed the public option or simply allowed people to buy into the same pool of insurance offered to members of congress.
I am thinking Insurance companies and Health care providers like hospitals and Pharmacy chains are happy with this ruling.

as a fairly astute financial and technology business executive (MBA, CPA, CMA, CFA), I try to look at complicated issues through a lens of simplicity - society provides healthcare to all that need it, whether it be via corporate/goverment/private organization financed health insurance that most of us have, or via private health insurance that many obtain themselves. Those that are "uninsured", still can and do receive healthcare whether it be via a "free" clinic or via their local ER....
The uninsured's health care is paid for by..... law abiding taxpayers, albeit indirectly, via tax breaks and federal/state and local appropriations - nothing is really changing except we are now acknowledging that and being upfront as to the tax we have been paying anyway
So, now, the veil is being lifted

ok looks like Oliva couldn't/wouldn't answer my question so I will ask another Republican on this forum: What was the GOP's plan to fix healthcare?? Both parties admitted the system was broken I just want to know what the GOP plan was to fix this problem?

If it is a tax then Obama will be hammered with:
1: Lying about it NOT being a tax, and
2. Presiding over the single largest tax increase in the history of our country
Watch Obama lie, lie, lie about Obamacare NOT being a tax....
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics...-is-not-a-tax/
And the Republicans don't have A plan; but have many plans and proposals:
here is one. And no doubt if they are successful in killing Obamacare, they will adopt a suitable replacement. Likely to contain reform ideas from the Democrats (unlike Obamacare).

Funny thing.... I advise a number of our largest insurance providers - before the ruling, the vast majority were going to maintain a number of the key provisions in the legislation, regardless of the SCOTUS... why? Because it is good for their business - broadens their customer base and makes them more important to their customer base - any incremental costs associated with it will be passed onto their customers... it is a no brainer for them

it has already began just like I predicted
This is why most Independents have trouble with the GOP- they are sour grapes- I bet Chief Justice Roberts will get death threats- I won't be surprised if Rush calls him out

The SCOTUS also said states can opt out of Medicaid; watch for many to not be part of the medicaid expansion mandated by Obamacare.....
This could turn out to be more signficant than the positive outcome of the mandate.

This is a disaster on several levels, which you do not understand. I will be starting another thread, to keep the flames in one place.

Look guys, I think that once the truth sinks in, more independent business people are going to see the benefits of this whole plan.
Granted, if you are asmall business and offer no insurance, then you will now be mandated to offer such insurance to your employs. But, to make it palatable, the congress decided to let you recoup some of the cost.
If you are like me, and were already paying for all of your employees health insurance, then you are much better off since you will be entitled to rebates and incentives that will offset some of the cost. My accountant says as much as 60 percent.
Now, I doubt that ole Nancy Pelosi had this in mind, (making old white guys like me better off), but it is now the law of the land., If you are a business that has never had to carry insurance for your employees, well, tough shit. Welcome to the real world.

I won;t go through it all, but just clarify a couple of things.
Europe is not socialist. Most countries have a pretty even balance between the more left/liberal and the more right/conservative parties. Many are fairly politically centre.
The above figures on UK tax need explaining. The 50% is a temporary measure, which has already been announced to be scrapped in the near future, for those earning over £150K pa I think. 40% is paid for those earning over about £40K pa. There is a level of about £10K pa on which no tax is paid. Most people pay, I think, 21% tax on earnings above £10K. Take all these figures as ball park.
The small corporation tax is 20%. There are good incentives for capital gains tax for entrepeneurs.
Of course, there is in addition national insurance, I don;t have the figures, i don;t pay it as I take dividends rather than salary. It is maybe 8%. Historically it was for health/social care, but that connection has disappeared a long time ago.
I think the big figure is what different countries pay overall per citizen for health care, and how good those provisions are. UK pays, i think, less than France/Italy/Sweden etc. US pays much more than any other country, from what i have read on this forum.

Obamacare does not provide free health care. It requires poor people to buy insurance. It's not free. That's one of the lies being spread.
