It's interesting, I really had never heard the word 'messy' being applied to anybody apart from the normal definitions I defined above.

But phrases like 'don't mess with me', 'stop messing about' I am very familiar with.

There is a big difference between 'don't mess with me' and 'stop messing with me'. The first is an aggressive threat to back off, the latter is (usually) a friendly gesture to stop teasing, but could be used also in an aggressive way.

'Stop messing with me' could mean 'stop licking the tip, get my cock down your throat' or it could mean 'stop tickling me, you're making me laugh so much it hurts'.

'Don't mess with me' could mean 'don't take me for granted, don't get in my way, get off my turf'. Completely different connotations.
