Have to agree with all the cook at home post, you can buy some prime ribeyes(3/4 per pack) at Cosco for the price you'd pay for one if you dine out. Add some good wine, and all is well.

Have heard of Sullivans in Austin, although I've never been, may have to take a trip up I-35.

Yeah, I've been there. Good food but definitely on the pricey side of things. Everything is ala carte with generous portions but dinner for 3 and one of their cheaper bottles of wine cost me around $250.

It would be blasphemy to cook a steak on anything other than an open fire

All this talk about steak has inspired me to fire up the grill tonight! Who's coming over?

So all my friends give me a hard time about being a "foodie" - I'll make a special trip to Houston or Austin (or Chicago if I can getaway) just for some good food - San Antonio does leave a lot to be desired.

Steaks in SA - I was actually very disappointed in Perry's and I'm not big on the chains like Logans or Saltgrass. My favorites - a little pricey - are either Bohanans downtown or Myrons on the north side.

Big difference in taste between mid-west steak and texas steak...

I agree with you on the Saltgrass place, SA_Rushfan.

BTW you ever go to Charlie Trotters in Chicago?
Listened to an interview with him years ago and have been dying to go there.
