That's because Europe's rates are already lower than the U.S. With more supply there is less demand, thus reducing rates. Just look at Texas compared to other states. Making this legal would cause an influx of women who may have never thought of doing it before. You can be as good as the next person, but if your market moves so do you lol.
Granted, this would not affect women who have another income so much, but it would have an impact on those who would now be competing with a thousand new faces at lower rates.
Edited for typo.

I have to say that making this legal proobably wouldn't sway a lot of women to join this industry. Most women who choose not to participate in it are for moral or personal reasons - not the jurisdiction of the law.

There are more factors than acknowledged. Just one for example: There would be an increase in the size of the client pool, incorporating those who presently hesitate (thus one of the reasons this is all moot in the first place).
Additionally, the pricing of Europe's true pros is equal or higher than in the US. Even in the Red Light District of Amsterdam, the 20 minute S&F is US$75+ with no frills, and an hour of full survice is over US$200. Outside the RLD, its US$250 and up. In other countries (Germany for example) the pricing is at least US$250 for a true pro, and that is a minimum.
The economics of Europe are not really any different than here, and actually, a top-tier courtesan is better compensated than in the US.

Maybe your courtesan types are, but what about the regular hourly girls? I make more money in freaking TN than I do in a state like LA, because there is not enough supply here. If the average rate in Europe is only 200-250 for a "TOP" girl as you say, we are doing better here lol. Our HDH pool starts at a grand usually, and hourly girls are making a national average of 300. That takes into account the 150 girls and the 500 per hour girls, to get that number.
My friend Valerie also makes more in the U.S. and she is from London. I guess it is moot to speculate as you say, but I have been in just about every market and price bracket there is, so it's simple trial and error. I can tell you first hand my London Rayne persona makes more money than any other, and she is not the highest priced.
As for morals, many women are in fact here now contrary to their beliefs due to desperation, so making it legal would just be one less thing they had to worry about. You can't honestly think every woman here wants to be here lol. Some are too lazy to work, some need more than the average 9-5 provides, some feeding habits, some working through school etc. That's always going to be an issue...legal or not.

My dear, there are of course exceptions everywhere in every country. Minimum rate for a good provider in better developed western European countries is US$250 and more like US$300+ for a true pro (and just as here, the sky is the limit for the best of the best). This is not speculation, rather it is experience talking, but then again, I am not one to see the low-end of the pool in any location, whether foreign or domestic.
My point originally was that pricing doesn't change in any significant way due to legalization, at least not for the true courtesan, and I used the international scene as the basis for my assertion.
If legalization occurred (which it won't, so it doesn't matter anyway), the only ladies in the US who would see a dip in revenue are the less desirable providers. The true pros would still be able to maintain their pricing structure and would probably have an uptick in business due to a larger client pool (thus the moot-ness of this point).
Subsequent Point Added: BTW honey, I am not trying to convince you of anything, rather (not that it matters one whit either way) to dispell any fear that suddenly the pricing will drop for everyone. This is by nature a seller's market: i.e. those with the best product can command the best price. But it is okay for all of us to have our own prognostications on the "what if" scenario, since it will never emerge from the realm of dreams to be proven one way or the other anyway.

+1! I can't agree more! My $$ increase when I'm in a market that doesn't have many upscale AA providers. LA is too saturated with ebony ladies for me too make my standard donation here.

Exactly, I too believe that legalization would cause in influx of new providers. Fact... Many of the faces we see here today were not here a couple years ago. Why? Because of media publicity. Many women didn't know that this industry (Escorting not Street walking) was available before the all the CL hype. Also, netbook/laptops, well cheaper computers in general....

Very well said, and understood. It has simply not been my experience when changing prices, markets, whilst keeping the service level the same.
Syxx, ditto on the too many of one kind in an area lol. I have a beautiful ebony friend who does so good in places I sucked at lol, so I know how you feel! If I may be so bold...try D.C. and New Jersey...they love some chocolate!

Thanks London! I'm already planning my trip to DC for the winter. Never thought about NJ, I'll have to give that a try.

Yuppers! I second this Syxx
Uh.. London I'm sure I would suck in TN
As for Legalization/Decriminalization - I agree with Ufriend. Neither will happen. It would be nice though.
As for more ladies wanting to join the hobby if it was legalized, bring it on. I'm not scared of new talent. If the market were to get too saturated - well there is always Sydney, Australia and umm ebony girls RULE there . lol

The brothels in Nevada should be shut down.
The brothels are only good for the pimps that own the brothels. Decriminalization would be a better choice.
