If the Boys had another 30 - 40 guys on the roster as talented as Romo and Sean Lee, this team would be the fave to win the Super Bowl. Romo is so far down the list per this team's problems:
A) NO running game.....O line offers "decent" pass blocking however we can't open slivers / lanes for the RB's. The O-line still needs more talent (ie: see the overhaul the Chicago Bears made in the off season to improve their line).
B) Their RB's are mediocre.....Murray can't stay healthy. Jury's out on the other 3 guys. Dallas' running game will improve when they decide to commit to that phase of the game....and that starts with drafting one you can build around. Dallas lost two games this season (Denver and Detroit) because we couldn't burn the clock and move the sticks with a bonafide running game.
C) Pass Rush. Lost of Spencer and Ware this season has impacted this defense to the point we're statistically one of the 5 worse defenses in the NFL today. Look at the top five D's in the league and you'll see we don't resemble any of them.
D) Monte Kiffen's schemes. I'm not sold on this "Bend don't Break" tactic however we are producing more turnovers. Maybe we simply need to give it time (and get the "right" talent into this scheme) to make it work.
More problems, of course. These are 4 that are glaring and reasons why we're still a .500 team.
Oh.....and the GM's an idiot, too. But nothing can change that except time and his name in the obituary.

All the Boys have are a few good individuals and as long as that is the case, they will be a .500 team at best. Romo is so far down the list per this team's problems:
A) NO running game.....O line offers "decent" pass blocking however we can't open slivers / lanes for the RB's. The O-line still needs more talent (ie: see the overhaul the Chicago Bears made in the off season to improve their line). I saw that, and why the boys cannot do that kind of overhauling goes on management and scouting.
100% agree, the best of the ones we have is actually Joseph Randle IMO, Murray is not an every down back
C) Pass Rush. Lost of Spencer and Ware this season has impacted this defense to the point we're statistically one of the 5 worse defenses in the NFL today. Look at the top five D's in the league and you'll see we don't resemble any of them. "the d-line is the strength of this team" - Jerry Jones as why he did not draft a DL. Nothing more need to be said there.
D) Monte Kiffen's schemes. I'm not sold on this "Bend don't Break" tactic however we are producing more turnovers. Maybe we simply need to give it time (and get the "right" talent into this scheme) to make it work. Yes, the Cowboys will be the first team in the NFL ever to have 20+ more takeaways then giveaways and not be able to win a playoff game, if they make it in.
More problems, of course. These are 4 that are glaring and reasons why we're still a .500 team.
Oh.....and the GM's an idiot, too. But nothing can change that except time and his name in the obituary. yes, but his son will take over and more than likely do the same, unless he wises up seeing this experience of someone who made money in oil and not football, might be a good owner, but not a good GM realizing that he should hire a football man to be a GM and sit back and rake in the cash.

I hope they play Seattle in the first round of the playoffs, they have a chance to win the game in the final five seconds, the ball is on Seattle's 12 YL, field goal attempt coming up AND Romo is called to handle the snap and then..........history repeats itself!

Seattle will probably get a first round bye, but if they did get the WC and have to Dallas in the first round, I would hope the Cowboys take out some revenge on the Seahawks, besides, Romo is no longer the holder on FG attempts so it would not happen anyway.

Funny. I'm sure there's plenty of Dallas Cowboy....or more specifcally, Romo-haters that would love to see even more failure rain upon this young man. Your "dream scenario" does remind one as to why Parcells should have adhered to the sage advice of another pretty smart coach of days gone by.
A crusty, old New York football coach mused decades ago while being interviewed as to why he thought it foolish to have your (starting) QB used as the placeholder for extra points and more importantly field goals:
One, he stated....Why risk the (real) chance of an injury to your QB? He's in a vulnerable position...kneeling / holding the ball for the placekicker. This had happened to KC QB (Len Dawson) in a game once years before and practically every coach henceforth either used their punter (good hands, right?) or their 3rd string QB. Losing your starting QB for the rest of the season over a PAT didn't make sense at all.
Secondly, the reason you're kicking a FG is the all in likelihood the 3rd down play was unsuccessful. Was it a bad pass / poor play on the part of the quarterback? If so, he's possibly still got his mind on that failed play (what might he had done differently to keep the sticks moving?) If his focus isn't on the job at hand....getting the ball in position for a successful FG attempt....bad stuff can happen.
Either way, Parcells maybe wasn't as bright as we give him credit for. Check around the league that season....you'll note not one other franchise in the NFL used their starting QB as their placeholder (except the Cowboys).
Romo was exceptional on that final drive in Seattle putting them in a position to kick the winning FG and win the game in the waning moments. The story that the ball was mishandled has taken on a life of it's own.....however had Genius-Coach Bill been a student of history and employed the wisdom of one Weeb Ewbank, the outcome could've been a little different.

Well......it's Half Time in Nawlins.....Brees has gone 26 for 30, 3 TD's so far. Boys are down 28-10.......
If the Saints put 600 yds and 50+ points on the board tonite (and there's no reason to believe they can't or won't), this steamer can be attributed directly to the architect of this team......the worst GM in the league and perhaps in the entire history of the NFL.

49-17 is the score at the moment, and Chris Collingsworth said it best, "The Cowboys are an every other week team", too bad their bye week is next week so they will probably lose against the Giants on 11-24!
