Not necessarily disagreeing. Just thinking.

Reputations--good or bad--can be undone, but the person who has built a good reputation will be given the benefit of the doubt--will have their posts read in a generally more favorable light.

Conversely, one with a poor reputation will have to carefully sure their posts cannot be read in a more negative light than they intend (never 100% possible) because many people will take the negative spin as the more likely "real" meaning. They will have to explain themselves more carefully, be a little extra gracious, scrub out as many "trigger" words as possible, etc.

In time reputations can change, but having dug a hole it becomes more difficult to convince the populous that you have changed. The longer history of digging, the harder the road back.
