He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 1st John, 4:18

Try philosophy of war. It's a professional thing.
A gal named Helen started one of the most history changing wars ever fought. And that story is still told thousands of years later.
We also were discussing rescue of the maiden, which, if you think about it, is also warfare at a very personal level.
Thus, Shakespeare, and a drift into biblical, where other history changing wars are mentioned.
So staying on a vaguely biblical theme:
Song of Solomon 2:3
I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

So what guy is not going to put on battle armour for that gal? Btw, kevlar does melt by dragon fire.

For the thread:
I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof: Now also thy breasts shall be as clusters of the vine. Solomon 7:8

Breasts

Ok, war, women, biblical, sex, english lit, maidens, dragons, etc. Did I leave anything out?

Hmm, swords and boobs?
And, after a few received comments, its evident that I left unicorns out of the earlier post.
So: Unicorns, maidens, and weapons.

For the thread: Valkrie

"From the farthest realms of morning
Came the Black-Robe chief, the Prophet,
He the Priest of Prayer, the Pale-face,
With his guides and his companions.
And the noble Hiawatha,"

Longfellow.

The air is crisp. There is the hint of smoke from the dying fires.
A slight cold breeze startles my spine and I grit my teeth and grip the pommel of my sword once again.
Our Imperator checks the line once more from his steed. The huge animal snorts and shakes it's massive head as a seasoned wrestler would crack his neck in anticipation of the coming foray.
And yet we wait. And wait. We are the 2,500.

Caesar's spiked trenches have taken their bloody toll. The mud does little to stifle the cries of the dying. He twirls his gladius as he waits for the right moment. Our legion is greatly outnumbered by the Gallics. The dead and dying fill our ears and lungs. We have heard the tales of Vercingetorix. I look to my right and see Aetius wet his leg. He looks at me and smiles. I think to myself he's a dumb brute but he's “Our dumb brute by the gods.”

Our legions have been at it for hours. The air is thick with the smell of blood. To anoutsider it would appear as all is lost. And it should be. But we have the red caped devil. Once again his steed stomps by and our leader draws his sword and points it at us. He offers no words. In his face we can see and know.
“Hail caesar!”
It's our turn and we are ready.

Ok General, but time jumping further back:

The Theban general Pagondas, in charge of the Boeotian army, orders two of his cavalry units, over 600 horses, to charge the Athenian Hoplites attempting to outflank his left, resulting in the collapse of the Athenian right. His third cavalry unit, over 300, supporting his main Hoplite drive, outflanks the Athenian left, while Pagondas’ Hoplites, 25 men deep, overpower the Athenian Hoplites, only 8 men deep, and take the center. The Athenians are routed and retreat to the fortified temple at Delium, which was then besieged and burned to the ground. This was the beginning of the end of the Athenian army. And a major turning point in the Peloponnesian War
Hippocrates, Commander of the Athenians, is killed.
Thucydides, a historian, was an Athenian General
Socrates, an Athenian Hoplite, escaped.
Plato, a cavalryman for Pagondas, observed Socrates during the Athenian retreat.

Of interest, at a later time, the future King Phillip of Macedonia, as a child, spent several years in Thebes as a political hostage, and thus was well versed in the Theban Art of War.

For the thread:
Wars

(Amused that you caught the Unicorn reference.)
