Because it involves the life of another person is the simplest answer but many of us use the viability argument as a compromise. As to all the other things I mentioned that our laws prohibit a woman from doing with her body, ie selling her kidney to the highest bidder, they don't involve the life of a third party. I don't see why this is so hard to understand.
We don't leave anybody, man or woman to do as they please. Surely you know this.

63% of women support abortion being legal in all or most cases, and only 9% believe abortion should be illegal in all cases, according to Pew. There are a lot of women that feel very passionately about this issue. It's their number one issue when they go to the polls.
Please see the excerpt I posted with some statistics --
https://www.eccie.net/showpost.php?p...&postcount=221
It should be an eye opener. A chart in the article indicated a woman denied an abortion was 5X more likely not to have enough money for basic necessities. You're most likely to get an abortion if you're black, unmarried and poor. You hit these women in the pocket book by forcing them to have unwanted children (not to mention childbirth and pregnancy are no picnic) and they're not going to vote for Republicans. And they're going to be mad as hell and go out and vote, like what happened in Georgia for the Senate runoffs. I can understand that. I'm that way on tax issues.
As to your belief kids don't typically follow in their parents' footsteps, with respect to political ideologies, that's just not right:
https://news.gallup.com/poll/14515/t...spectives.aspx
Finally your belief that poor women won't have any problem traveling to other states to get abortions is questionable, at best. Yeah if charities and corporations help, maybe you're partly right. But in another post you appear to be against the corporations helping them.
|
Then Liberals have nothing to worry about.
No, I'm not against corporations helping. Either I have to pay more close attention to what I'm writing or you do in your reading. How you could come up with I'd be against corporations or anybody from helping a pregnant women get an abortion baffles me especially considering that you know for a fact I would not ban abortions if given the chance to vote on it but all this is academic to the point of the Constitutional finding that this issue as many others, should be left up to the vote of the people by State. Anybody that would argue against that doesn't understand the Constitution or Federalism.

Ya a lot of women have no idea they are preggo at 6 weeks especially if they aren't trying. Late or missing periods are common. By the 2nd month they will probably get the hint that they might be preggo. That gives a few weeks to make a decision on what to do before the reasonable 13 week termination period.

She replied, no and don't want any. She said she wouldn't marry someone with kids. She made it clear to me she found children of any age annoying. Although I realize it's her right to feel that way. It was just a shame that she had that attitude amidst her other good qualities. I immediately noticed her attitude towards me began to change, not because I have children because I don't, but because I didn't have a negative view of women with children or children in general. I would have to surmise that Abortion Clinics find women with her attitude walk through their doors more often than not.

It was a first date. I couldn't wait to get away from her. Conversation went south it seemed she didn't like anything. She didn't like kids, she didn't like the last guy she dated, she didn't like me she didn't even like the Bar Tender, lol. So no I didn't fuck her.

I'm going to guess that the major objection to abortion for ANY reason based on my LONG time in this world is religious based. Now, I understand that. It is NOT my first choice although I am sure there are idiots on this board who think otherwise. You have your right to your religious beliefs. That's called religious liberty/freedom. What about those who have a different view of things? What about THEIR religious liberty?

No one can say when life begins. That is the final point of discussion. Why is it so hard to understand ?
They can have their beliefs. Why do they have the need to impose their beliefs on others ?

religion is the main reason for opposition to abortion. always has been and probably always will be.
the problem with religion is that each religious variant of Christianity thinks theirs is the only correct version when in fact they are all almost identical in their beliefs.

This is exactly right. The Qanon right wants 50 different definitions about when life begins, and what penalties are imposed if you don't follow exactly what and when your State mandates. Backward States like Texas will attempt to punish women who leave Texas to get an abortion where it is legal, and allow some Bloke in, say, Rhode Island to sue the baggage handler at DFW Airport, for assisting the Texas Woman in getting an abortion.
Each Individual has his own belief about when life begins and should get legal protection. We don't need the State deciding. Funny how most of the Qanon right on this Board is FOR abortion in some circumstances. But not a God Damn one of them has posted against Abbott and Texas tactics to make abortion unavailable, utilizing methods that make Atilla the Hun look like a Progressive.

The hard right only values freedom when it fits their world view.
Let's say Roe is over-turned, and we get 50 States deciding its own abortion laws. The poor will be forced to have children, but others will travel to terminate pregnancies.. Many more will get abortion pills by mail.
Maybe the Qanon Right will have squads set up to intercept mail, and UPS/FedEx shipments? Tyranny knows no boundaries for those people.
