Your arguments have all been heard before...
Conseratives argued blacks weren't human.

Now Conseratives are arguing they know best concerning women's healthcare!

How long before you ban contraceptives?

I lived in Louisiana for 20 years and my best friend a die hard Biden/ Democrat supporter still lives there and we were talking last night about this and both agree that if Roe is reversed and Louisiana decides to ban ALL abortions and charge any doctor for murder that does, the economic decline of Louisiana will be spectacular. No more Mardi Gras to speak of, no more Jazz fest. No more celebrities, sports teams etc. will perform in Louisiana. They will be ostracized to a level never before seen. You think Atlanta losing the Wold series was a big deal? It will look like a cake walk compared to what will come if they ban all abortions but that is the decision for the people of Louisiana and has no bearing on me at all. Many people will pull up stakes and I can't imagine many people saying "Yeah, let's move to a state that bans all abortions".
Hedonist, We may both be pro-choice, and both very aware that the Constitution calls for the states to decide issues like these, but otherwise I just don't understand your point of view. See my earlier response to your comments about corporations funding abortions.

63% of women support abortion being legal in all or most cases, and only 9% believe abortion should be illegal in all cases, according to Pew. There are a lot of women that feel very passionately about this issue. It's their number one issue when they go to the polls.

Please see the excerpt I posted with some statistics --

https://www.eccie.net/showpost.php?p...&postcount=221

It should be an eye opener. A chart in the article indicated a woman denied an abortion was 5X more likely not to have enough money for basic necessities. You're most likely to get an abortion if you're black, unmarried and poor. You hit these women in the pocket book by forcing them to have unwanted children (not to mention childbirth and pregnancy are no picnic) and they're not going to vote for Republicans. And they're going to be mad as hell and go out and vote, like what happened in Georgia for the Senate runoffs. I can understand that. I'm that way on tax issues.

As to your belief kids don't typically follow in their parents' footsteps, with respect to political ideologies, that's just not right:

https://news.gallup.com/poll/14515/t...spectives.aspx

Finally your belief that poor women won't have any problem traveling to other states to get abortions is questionable, at best. Yeah if charities and corporations help, maybe you're partly right. But in another post you appear to be against the corporations helping them.

Let me try and understand your logic.

Presently individual women have the choice. You seem to want to put that choice in the hands of States. The GOP has stated that it wants a national ban on abortion.

a national ban on abortion would be just as unconstitutional as a national mandate for abortion

So is your logic that the Federal government should have made slavery mandatory in states that banned slavery.

no you idiot

Or do you think it should be the State dight and you would be against a national ban on abortion?

Inquiring minds want to know...

as i've said before i'm pro choice. this does fall under state's rights. i doubt any state will ban abortions completely. i think women should have a fundamental right to an abortion as a result of rape, if her life is in danger by the pregnancy or if the fetus is clearly severely deformed/impaired.

i also think a woman should have the right to choose to have an abortion as a matter of personal choice, within the current standard of two trimesters.

i bet you believe the exact same thing.

You're actually a little more liberal on this, with the two trimesters, than I am. Hedonist said he's pro choice too, although he'd only allow for 6 weeks, which is inadequate in my opinion. For some reason though I'm the only baby killer out of the three of us.

Trust me, maybe they can drive or get a ride to a clinic in another state, but many won't. You haven't dated as many crack whores as I have.

i'm not calling you or anyone else who opts for an abortion a baby killer. by that i mean by choice not the conditions i think should be a fundamental right.

6 weeks is clearly way too short of a time frame. many women aren't even aware they are pregnant at 6 weeks. this time frame doesn't allow for any medical determination of the health of the fetus in terms of deformities or a threat to the woman's life.

i would say that abortion at the time of birth is outright murder. any Doctor who would terminate a child at birth should be fucking executed.

Not something to be proud of. Or just even admit.

Just sayin'

Those may be compelling reasons to keep Abortion open as a procedure for a medical emergency. Unfortunately though the overwhelming number of Abortions are performed because the pregnancy is an inconvenience and a burden. I went out with a girl a few years ago, I found her to be reasonably attractive and rather smart. During conversation over a drink I simply asked her if she had any children. She replied, no and don't want any. She said she wouldn't marry someone with kids. She made it clear to me she found children of any age annoying. Although I realize it's her right to feel that way. It was just a shame that she had that attitude amidst her other good qualities. I immediately noticed her attitude towards me began to change, not because I have children because I don't, but because I didn't have a negative view of women with children or children in general. I would have to surmise that Abortion Clinics find women with her attitude walk through their doors more often than not.

See how easy it is to misunderstand and misquote someone. My reference to 6 weeks was about how some people view the subject just like I mentioned 15 weeks which is the Mississippi law the SC is considering.. I thought I had clearly said, apparently not, that I would vote for Roe to remain as is.

Quote:
during the first trimester, governments could not prohibit abortions at all; during the second trimester, governments could require reasonable health regulations; during the third trimester, abortions could be prohibited entirely so long as the laws contained exceptions for cases when they were necessary to save the life or health of the mother.

I think a 20 week "viability test" makes since to me. If it comes up for a vote in Florida to ban abortions after 15 weeks with the exceptions above with careful and a precise definition of "health" as to say her "physical health" like her organs may be damaged but she wouldn't die but life would be more difficult physically, I would vote for that. A ban less than 15 weeks and I would not vote for that.

Why can't we leave women alone and let them make their own decision. Instead of imposing your beliefs on others....who you don't give a shit about anyway.

Many people won't follow any law. That doesn't mean we make an exception for them.
