Didn't that man take Butler to the NCAA Finals 2 years in a row? That man is a superstar coach who knows how do adjust in the games.
Tatum and Brown are only getting better so the Celtics will be a problem for everyone for a while.
Danny Ainge is a great GM. I thought letting Al Horford go was brilliant. Al looks like shit now.
The Celtics will get next level. Tatum and Brown are not even close to their prime. Their ceilings are off the charts.
yes he did and nearly won over the Puke Blue Sissies. last second shot fell short. would have won the game and the title. it nearly went in .. from half court .. I thought it was going to go in.
The second half was played very closely, with neither team taking a substantial lead. With 3:16 to play, Duke took a 60–55 lead on two made free throws by Nolan Smith. Butler cut the lead to one point in the final minute and, after a missed Kyle Singler jump shot with 36 seconds remaining, got a chance to retake the lead. Butler was unable to initiate their offense and Stevens called a timeout to set up a play. A failed inbounds attempt and a timeout later, Hayward missed a baseline fade-away jumper and Brian Zoubek came down with the rebound for Duke. He was quickly fouled with less than 4 seconds remaining. Hayward narrowly missed a desperation half-court shot as time expired, making the final margin 61–59.[61]
so close!!!
last two minutes in real time
yeah Ainge built a title team .. but Celts fans HATE him. in 1986 he threw a bad bounce pass to McHale with the Celts up 1 then came ... Magic's famous baby sky hook to win the game and make the difference in the series. so all he really did is atone for his fuckup

That brought tears to my eyes. It is one of my favorite sports moments I've seen in my life. I thought there was no way in hell that shot was going in while I watched that game.
I think about that team and I think about McHale. Sure, I was obviously worried about Bird but I was more worried about McHale. I just remember thinking no PF on the Lakers can guard him and this tall fucker can actually guard James Worthy. I don't believe McHale has ever received the true credit he deserves for his greatness. Other than Olajuwon, I can't think of a big man with more moves and better foot work than him. People will say Tim Duncan but I disagree with that. I know Duncan could have never guarded James Worthy.

it brought tears to my eyes too .. but not in joy. but I did make a few Pistons fans cry by betting them 20 bucks each .. 100 total when I told them the Celts would beat the pistons .. was at a bar drinking with a buddy .. then this happened ..
RIP Dennis Johnson and Johnny Most. That was a great sequence at the end of the game that I'll never forget even all of these years later.
My dad was pissed. He grew up watching the Celtics beat the Lakers in the playoffs all of the time. He wanted no part of them in the finals ever again. I still remember the "Memorial Day Massacre" a few years earlier and my dad saying "here we go again" and he gave up watching. I actually felt bad for him. I was a kid and I didn't really give a shit but he did.
That's why I love watching sports. It's about the memories. Fuck the politics. I'm not going to remember that shit. I'll just remember and appreciate the games.
TWK, I appreciate your posts. It's always nice to watch historic sports moments that will always last and so memorable.

WHAAAA???
McHale is universally regarded as one of the top 3 PFs in the pre3point craze era along with Malone and Duncan. With his long arms and outstretched shot he was considered almost unguardable.
I'm on a Lakers message board. Lakers fans are kind of like Cowboys fans. They are somewhat delusional when they believe their team is invicible.
Anyway, I pissed a lot of them off on that board when I said Portland's guards will be a problem and you can forget about them sweeping Portland. After they lost game one, I had some snide remarks to my fellow Laker nation. I tried to login after the game tonight and that fucking mod banned me after game one. I thought that shit was funny. Who the fuck bans a Chuck Nevitt handle? That's so wrong.

the 80's Celtics frontcourt of Birdy, the Chief and McHale is considered by many as the best ever.
you guys know the NBA like the back of your hand. lol!
I know only a few names. Larry bird, Pistol Pete maravich, Julius Irving, Michael Jordan, Shaq, magic Johnson, Chris Paul, Anthony Davis (gag, gag, gag), Zion Williams, Kareem Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain (the last 2, I did not see them play on tv, but they were referenced alot in media).
.....

In the 3 pt crazed NBA anybody's guards can be a problem if they are hitting from the 3 pt line and your guards aren't.
