I just read that the State Department spent over a million dollars on statues and other art for embassies. Now a million dollars doesn't go very far these days but I kind of think a million dollars would have done a lot for the consulate in Benghazi. You know, fix the hole in the wall, raise the height of the wall to specs, put a guard shack around the gate guard, and install some racks to put some good weapons on.

I was not aware that John Adams, Ben Franklin, or half the members of the Continental Congress owned slaves. Some Southern members had slaves but not all and I'm not sure how many owned plantations. I think you're confusing the 1770s with the 1840s.
