Since you are not from the US, I encourage you to also check out some of the "small town" features of the metro and surrounding (although there are also great examples around Austin as well).

Grapevine, Denton, and McKinney all have prosperous "squares" as do many of the towns that have grown together to become the "Metroplex."

Regards,

PS, not in the metro, but if you like day trips to see unique things, check out Jefferson, TX (on the way to Shreveport) and thier re-enactment weekend the first weekend of May.

Dallas has a larger gallery scene due to its tie-in with the decorators. Try Dragon Street on Saturdays beginning at 6pm for about 4 long city blocks of galleries lining both sides of the street. There are usually about 10-12 galleries open, they are free to go into and look at and some usually are seving wine and horse-doovers. A nice time to check out what passes for Dallas' beautiful, cultured people.

If you have to prioitize your sight seeing, my suggestion as follows will get you the "most" for your time:

The best rule of thumb is that Dallas is for commerce and night life and Ft. Worth is for culture.

1. The Sixth Floor Museum - sort of a downer, but really a must see because of the history and controversy.
2. Ft. Worth Art - The Kimball is far and away the best art museum between NYC and LA; The Amon Carter Museum is all about American art, yep, pardner, there's lots of cows and horses, Remingtons and Russells, but there is outstanding coverage of American art and photography from the 18th century onward - plus it's just down the street from the Kimball.
3. Ft. Worth Zoo and Ft. Worth Botanic Gardens

That will get you two very full days or three at a more moderate pace. Check out all of the above suggestions from the other posters if you have the time. All are very good and worth while if you can do them all.

Good luck, have a good time and, remember, there's a perv behind every bush looking to relocate....lol.

Do you duck?
