Old Dingus, the newsgroup was actually alt.sex.prostitution and there are numerous thoughts about where the name ASPD.net came from. Like BL, I feel the name originated from alt.sex.prostitution.discussio n newsgroup. That's where some of us original members came from.
I've been around since 1998 or so and it went from alt.sex.prostitution on the newsgroups to a site run by delphi, then delphi closed the hobby stuff down, then allowed hobby stuff again. At this time Amber started ASPD.net. The good thing about ASPD was that the ladies were free to post, and most of us were hearing about the hobby from the viewpoint of the ladies.
Unfortunately when ASPD folded, some members moved to a site that is for the most part unmoderated, except for the providers who seem to get banned at a moments notice. At one time a term (for example) like 'fat whores' would have never been tolerated. Now a days, it's used quite often and it's put up with. What it shows is that a handful of members don't really want the providers posting, unless it's ads, and when it's tolerated by board administration, it's proof that board administration also doesn't have any respect for the ladies either. However this is just my opinion and if anybody has opposing opinions, I would just suggest that if the shoe fits................... Out of respect, I won't name the site.

I started my 'hobby' around 1995 (wow, the time flies!). At that time there was no bulletin boards nor discussion groups on the 'hobby' and there was a total rip-off by so-called (at that time) providers. I was young and horny, stuck in the sexless marriage, and girls would charge me around $180 just for dancing around me semi-naked, without even allowing me to touch them. I was lucky to get a HJ then.
At that time, I met one guy at one of the Usenet groups (yeah, the Web was not so developed and we had Usenet then). We chatted about this miserable situation and he decided to start a private 'hobby' list. I still don't know his real name and probably never will, but he was going under the nickname Dick O'Stone. Later he changed his name to Papa Rotzy. The list grew in size, he was picking some hapless horny males, like ourselves, from the Usenet groups. And then we got info on some real providers that we were happy to share with each other.
After a few years Papa Rotzy got tired to manage his list and disappeared, without me having a chance to buy him a beer, as I once promised, as my humble token of appreciation for all his efforts. Well, he was living in Dallas and in Houston so whenever each one of us was visiting these places the other was not available. Too bad, he sounded like a very cool guy to me.
The Papa Rotzy's list was then 'inherited' by a guy from Houston who went under nickname Horny Devil or simply HD. We met at one of the happenings and I know his real name, which I prefer to keep to myself. At this happening I also met a girl to whom I developed a big crush (I know, this one of 'no-nos' in our 'hobby', but we're humans, after all). Her name was Kelly and she used to run the Yours Tonight agency. This was the only case in my long 'hobby' career, whereas I really 'broke down' and was ready to leave my wife and marry Kelly, so much I liked her. Alas, she disappeared about 5 years ago, after owing money to somebody. At the same time the Horny Devil and his list also disappeared. I won't be surprised if he took off with Kelly, since they were also good friends and even married her. In such a case I would have changed his name to Lucky Devil, instead of Horny Devil. If some of you know her whereabouts and even in touch with her, please tell her that I still have a place in my heart for her (she will know who I am).
Then the ASPD came into existence along with many great, alas now defunct, studios (Wildflowers, for example). I was also frequenting Dong Kyong and was going under the nickname the Chocolate Guy there because of my habit of bringing good chocolates to the girls I liked there.
Well, I was also a member of another short-lived private list that was ran by the guy named Sandman. He got expelled, for the reason I cannot recall now, from Papa Rotzy's list and started a list of his own. We met once for lunch. He was an Asian guy, married like me, who loved women. I remember that he was very tense during our meeting and I felt like we are some kind of spies or terrorists instead of just being men who want to fulfill their natural urges.
So... if anyone of my old buddies is still there, send me a note, either here or through the PM. I just want to know how are you doing. Let's swap some memories and maybe even get together for a drink to reminiscent on our past 'adventures.' Or, my handles at the private lists were Kind Stranger or Alex. Sometimes I even used my Dong Kyong handle the Chocolate Guy.
So whenever you are, I wish you all good and long life, good erections (thanks God for Viagra and similar stuff) and keep loving life! Because I firmly believe that men who love women and want to have sex with them have their virility intact which assures a long and healthy life.
Yours in 'hobby'
Major Tom

I don't remember Papa, but I seem to remember Dick O'Stone.
I also remember Your's Tonight and I seem to remember the name Kelly, but the Your's Tonight I remember was run by Amber. Perhaps Amber bought it from Kelly, but I'm not sure.
The early days were a true eye opener, and as active I was here, I also liked places like Club Hombre and costaricaticas for the traveler to other places. I remember one night in boystown Nuevo Laredo I saw some gringo with some papers in his hand and he looked lost. I walked up to him and asked him if he needs help. He said he did, but he was reading a review by someone and was suffering from information overload. He said he was reading something from worldsexguide.com and was trying to figure out where to start. I asked him who wrote it, and he replied a guy named Dear John. I started laughing and I told him my internet handle was Dear John, so I was his guide that night. Fun times.

Oh yes, aspd was run wonderfully ... INTO THE GROUND by the valued modtards, staff, and hanger ons. How many of the staff of aspd were de facto pimps in the areas they modtarded? At least at the unnamed SHMB, people know the reasons why they are given vacations unlike aspd where fucktards just disappeared. Yep, aspd was heavenly ...

Totally a matter of opinion. Personally I had minimal problems with the mods. I rarely visited other cities forums, so I don't know what all went on there. There may have been shit storms going on in Dallas, Austin, Las Vegas, NYC, etc., but it never impacted what I dealt with in Houston.
There were mods I liked and others that weren't my favorites, but that's just the nature of any internet forums, hobby related or not.
What always made me laugh was those poor pathetic and lifeless fools that knew what all was going on all over Texas or other places. It's like the hobby was their job. Now if they hobbied regularly in other cites, that's something else. For the ladies I can understand. Houston was big enough to keep up with much less other major cities in Texas.

Are we talking Horndogs? Or about ERAP or whatever it was called? That site had few reviews and was eclipsed by ECCIE. I liked ASPD because they generally had standards and the mods and staff were very helpful when problems arose.

Certainly shows how much you know about the unnamed SHMB.
People are sent on vacation without giving a reason....and a week later....given a reason, where a directive had been purposely misinterpreted....just to send them on vacation.

I stated that out of respect I wouldn't name the site. It's obvious you don't understand the concept of the word 'respect', so I won't waste my time trying to explain it.

For what I understand here at the unnamed people know why they go away. Maybe some chose to ignore the directives but that is on them. At the very least the unnamed has a long list of rules, if anyone would read them.

Wait...you have respect for a site that is unmoderated and bans providers for no reason?? DJ...I LIKE this new side of you! Is it full of "old timers" the OP can connect with?
Seriously, what's the name of the site you're talking about?

While Amber does get credit for ASPD as ground breaking as it was, the site had a LOT of faults. The software was a POS and Amber appeared unwilling or unable to update it. Her attitude that she and ASPD should and could act as the "hobby police" was a major mistake in judgement. There were some good mods but also a couple that took advantage of their position in the worst way and Amber and other choice to look the other way. Some great information but way too much drama.

Lol... Selective memory? Yes, several hundred dollars but don't worry about it. You were a well known cheapskate back then by both men and women. Don't know your habits today and wish you the best.

Yes, the software sucked. But the people were amazing. Only a matter if time before eccie is taken down.

ASPD was a class act for sure.
Not a bunch of whiners because they didn't get as good of service as the review before them.
Wonder what became of Slayer, Ratboyjam, jacksparrow and the rest of the "Hell Raisers" ???
