I do not think I have ever met a train that I did not love( even Amtrak lol) When I lived in Europe I bought my first interrail pass, and that was how I first became attached to rail travel. There is something about being on a train that is so relaxing. It is even fun when you are alone, because you always meet interesting people.
I have not travelled by train for a while due to the fact that with the exception of Europe trains are not dog friendly. But, when I was travelling more I went through Europe, Uzbekistan,Thailand, Canada, and a tiny bit of California by train. So far Canada is my favorite.
I have never travelled on The Orient Express, but it has to be amazing. The Trans Siberian Express has always been one I would love to do.

Also in India there are trains that take you right into their mountains.

I am strange

, sometimes I just drool over the Amtrak website's, fares, and time tables section. If you ever get the chance to do a major rail journey I hope you do it. Some of my happiest memories have been from being on trains.
