So the server crash due to a hack? And are passwords compromised?
Thanks Duke

No. No one said anything about a hack. No one said anything about passwords. Stop assuming and inserting details.
This is exactly the knid of stuff that leads to MORE confusion.
There was an email sent today from an EXTERNAL source, claiming things about ECCIE. It was a lie. Spam. Ficticious. AND, as Coven points out...NOT FROM ECCIE.NET.
And in case you wonder "how?" - many members have email addresses that are "hobby public" and are easy to find. Your email address, if you've used it to communicate externally, is not a secure piece of information.
I'd like a poll of how many ECCIE members have given money to the Nigerian Finance Ministry to claim their lost cash...

One of our members told me today she received an email about the crash and said who it was from..... Clearly she can read as duke has pointed out.
FG.... How about next time you post questions of this nature in the proper forum which would be the technical forum and since you seem to want an answer as swiftly and as bad as you seem hit the rtm on it and maybe you will get your answer sir.

You would think that the ownership would want to notify it's members about false emails.
Especially since many people pay for this service and information and are only doing that based on the reputation of the owners/board itself.

Fixed that for you.... unless of course you are saying she was WISE to the scam?

Yea I guess I could have worded it differently. The timing of both instances is what threw me. Thanks for the info Duke.

It's still a little disconcerting that my hobby email was included in a distribution email like that. Meaning, it was somehow compromised by a provider or some derivation thereof.

Agreed. But think of this: MANY people are not good at simple internet security. One email with a CC field instead of a BCC, for instance.
I would rather suggest that your hobby email IS something that will be public. There is virtually no way to share it without it somehow getting somewhere you don't want it.
That's WHY hobby emails are so key. The amount of people using real-world related emails is simply staggering.

I received that email as well and was extremely worried about it when I saw the from: and also could see every email that was sent one...I had already clicked the link and it took me to another page than eccie. I was worried it was a hack. I changed my password immediately. I kept getting an email that said I shared my contact info w/dzhang. I spammed it and changed my password again and I received the same email within minutes of changing it. I am tempted to delete that email address, but I've had it for a very long time. I also changed my password here. I deleted all my sent mail in that account, I deleted most of my contacts in there also. I hate to but will probably delete all my received mail as well in there. I'm not sure how much info they can get/use from my account. I changed my email address on here as well.....

Simple Question
My question was rather simple and straightforward.
. . . What happened to the board?

My response to you had nothing to do with your question sir.... It had to do with your placement of your thread which you have a tendency to do.
Simple question...... Simple answer: The only answer I personally have to give you is a server went down.
I have a feeling that even if others came in and told you the same thing it would not suffice for you. That said feel free to continue on until you tire out or get an answer.
