Good question JD. So what is the union really after? What should be done to make the system to work? We need suggestions - other than the 3rd revolution to change this country I think. I may need to post the "3rd Revolution" here I guess.

Overall a good starter discussion. Thanks for sharing folks.

You posted this nonsense with no explaination as to whether or not you agreed with it. Of course I assumed you agreed with it. This sort of post invites misunderstanding. What's the point of posting it without giving your opinion?

This so called Second Bill of Rights was first proposed in 1944 by FDR. It lists all the things the government should be required to do for you. It was a bad idea then and it still is.

What threats besides Mexican bandits? Japan 1941. Mexican drug cartels today. La Conquista today. Even the Canadians are starting to get belligerent with Obama in the White House.

You exaggerate.

The Japanese never had any means or intention of attacking the United States proper, just it's possessions in the Pacific.

Mexican drug cartels are a criminal problem for sure, but no worse than the Sicilian mafia in the past, etc....

La Conquista and other loudmouths are just a nusance and not a threat.

A threat is when somebody crosses your boder in force and starts killing people in some kinda rampaging type thing.

You know, sort of like what the US did to the people living in Iraq in 2003.

That kinda thing.

Or like the Mexican bandits did in Brownsville, TX over a hundred years ago...or what was that other thing...oh, yes, the World Trade Center in 1993 and 2001, Fort Hood, the Pentagon, etc. The Japanese took away the Philippines, Wake, Guam, Adak, Kiska, Attu, to name a few small places.

Like I said the Japanese never touched the US, only it's colonial possessions.

Yeah it was my point exactly that Mexican bandits were a threat.

If you think that idiot in Ft Hood and other rare and stupid crimes are a national security threat than you should seek psychiatric care because more people are killed crossing I-35 every year than in all these episodes.

More people are killed by bee stings than these idiotic "terrorist" acts.

But then I guess you think the shoe bomber and the underwear bomber and the Times Square smoking van are all part of some vast diabolical plot by the grand terrorist puppet master who heads...

"Al-Qaeda!"

You should work for the Rand Corporation or some other wholley government funded place as they would welcome you to the gravy train.

All aboard for the government funded anti-terrorst gravy train.

"Gee I'm a GS-11 and what are you?"

"Oh I'm a supergrade GS-17 since I wrote that paper on al-Qaeda in Nebraska. I got a promotion after that."

Not entirely accurate:

To say that the US has never been threatened or touched is ridiculous. Have you forgotten about both World Trade Center attacks?

Look at the facts on WWII alone:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America...2%80%931945%29

Japanese never had intention of attacking the mainland?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombardment_of_Ellwood

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombard...f_Fort_Stevens

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lookout_Air_Raids

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_balloon

While none of these were serious threats they were successful as "attacks" on US Soil and were done not probably not so much with the intention of leading a direct invasion at that time but to find weaknesses in our defense. Japan had every intention of eventually attacking the mainland en force.

The biggest obstacle the Japanese saw was our second amendment. They believed that there was a gun in every home. Same thing that kept Germany out of Switzerland. They didn't invade not because they didn't intend to they just didn't make it far enough before we repelled them. It took Little Boy and Big Boy to break their will and make them understand that the universe didn't revolve around Japan.

.
These don't make for an invasion and you know it.

The documents, records and history of Japanese war aims are well known, and they don't include invading and conquering the US homeland.

That's a perposterous proposition. The Japanese plan was engineered by Isoruku Yamamoto [Admiral] and involved destroying the US fleet through a series of quick actions and then suing for peace. There's no controversy about that.

As for the WTC attacks in 1993 and 2001....

Uh that's not exactly any country that did that.

Those were plans conducted by small numbers of wacky zealous groups like what the Bader-Meinoff and Red Brigades were doing in Europe in the 1970s.

Such groups of wacked-out weirdos kill fewer people than beestings or lightening bolts every year.

It makes for good theater and justifies a lot of spending and promotions, but you can't really call it a national security threat [unless your job depends on it in which case you'll say anything and so would I]

No more than you can say aliens are a national security threat....

Funny, when I was in Europe for a couple of weeks in late July, they didn't seem to be bankrupt! Restaurants were full, food markets were full of great fruits and produce. Real estate prices hadn't fallen in either Paris or Provence, or so I was told. Not in Tuscany, either.

Then why were there so many Japanese "visitors without tourist visas" in Alaska in the years 1942 and 1943? BTW, the Nazis DID have plans to occupy and rule the U.S.

Baader-Meinof and others, Carlos the Jackal, the PLO, etc., benefited from Soviet Union funding. http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2011/12/how-the-soviet-union-transformed-terrorism/250433/
