And re: 2 & 3: renting doesn't mean you don't pay property taxes you just don't see the line item in your "rent". The property owner is paying taxes and at a higher rate than a single family property owner would. Those "taxes" along with his overhead go towards determining your "rent". It's like saying, "don't buy a book, go to the library where it's free"....it's not "free" your taxes are paying for it.

Just saying man...
On the bicycle issue, you also have the option to walk. Or run. Or if you feel you must ride a bike you could barter for a helmet. For instance, I push my bike up to Academy and tell them, I'll wash your windows in exchange for a helmet. Then I could ride my bike home. A somewhat extreme solution, but more than possible. If you run to work in a Texas summer, or cycle for that matter I don't want to work next to you. Sorry.

As for 2&3, I'd say that's some pretty extreme parsing there, but there's nothing that says a landlord must build the tax costs into the rent. I'm not saying they don't all do it, but even though they do I'm not paying the tax. For all I know he's collecting the money and not even paying the tax. And if those taxes aren't paid the taxing agent is not coming after me. They'll go after the landlord. Correct? Just like I don't pay the farmer for my veggies, but he does get paid.

Actually most small businesses already provide insurance for their employees. Among Texas companies with at least 50 workers, 95 percent offer health insurance to employees. Among smaller companies, 31 percent offer coverage.
For small businesses, the pool of potential employees should grow significantly. Workers won't have to stay put just to maintain their insurance, in what's known as "job lock."

More small companies will be able to offer coverage, because tax credits will offset some of the costs and they're expected to get better deals through small business exchanges. Others will depend on individual exchanges to provide insurance for their employees, a backstop that doesn't exist today.
This should open the door for a wave of freelancers, independent contractors and early retirees.
