I just thought a hobby was meant to be fun. All the negativity, personal attacks and bitterness between the parties takes the fun away from it. Oh well, as long as it stays in the board, it doesn't migrate to anyone's personal life and no one takes it seriously and tries to physically harm anyone, I guess it will all be fine
In the words of Lenny Kravitz, You've got to let love rule!

I have to strongly disagree on limiting speech.... We had that problem to an extrem here in Austin on the old boards....
And as Mods go.... I could not disagree with you more where Moloa is concerned....... He used to have his head on straight but now is an example of how being a "mod" corrupts some.
He has to be one of the least respected Mods and is considered a joke even amongst some other Mods.
A lot of his pulling the trigger on threads has been more censorship than moderation..... IMO....
SA lacks any rift within the community as it never developed Austin's issues. Austin was the most corrupt of hobby communities with Mods trading control for pussy and making personal decisions on how they wanted Austin ran. For a number of years Austin was not remotely close to the lne other communities maintained.....
SA prices as well as talent is better as well....
I think it all adds up to a calmer environment...

Very good Ralphey , I'm going to take your knowledge of all the lyrics as a contribution , and not the agitation I believe you meant it to be.

"Praise in public; criticize in private."
-- Vincent Thomas "Vince" Lombardi
Seems to me co-ed threads with praise in them are met with cynicism way too often. And to be clear, the criticizing in private was done with the one deserving the criticism.
Personally, I like the threads that relate the hobby world to the rest of the world (e.g., songs that remind you of the hobby, when acronyms collide, etc.).
Also, any topic that gets Carl to put his sense of humor on display is worth it.

Best piece of advice I've seen around here in quite a while. The reality is that that a message board community cultivates the type of behavior we have seen as of late. Whether it's the confidence that comes from hiding behind anonymity or just the fact that some people lack the social capacities to handle themselves properly, the all-to-often downward spiral to personal attacks really adds nothing to the board. What many don't realize is that 99% of the time, these "debates" are being lost on both sides. No one "looks good" in the end.
If you're not having fun around here, stop taking yourself so seriously, step away from the keyboard and go have some fun somewhere else .
Honestly, I find it entertaining when people make fools of themselves without even realizing it. I guess it's just the daytime talk show effect. That being said, the personal attacks and threats that pop up more often than they should don't do any good for anyone.
Oh wait...need to quote a song: "All the gold, and the guns, and the girls, in the world.....could not get you off".

Absolutely true , however people spiraling downward are usually spinning so fast they get dizzy. Then they can't think , and do ultimately end up looking bad .

I think it's more of a reflection how small and miserable and shallow and inferior feeling and inadequate and lonely and full of anger and depression and zero self esteem that many members of the hobby suffer from, myself included.
Of course, all will deny any of that exists in THEIR world. Everyone is so special, unique and different and denial is not a .........This would create another argument. Not me! Not me! Not me! Yea, right.
Make all of those adjectives go away and peace will prevail.
Until then, not so much...and all of those adjectives are synonymous with the hobby anyway.
Just my $0.02.

I thought that was an up-charge
SA is indeed highly moderated. While that keeps the chafe down, it can also stifle the flow of information.
This topic used to arise periodically even in the early P-days.

I put more validity in someone speaking their own truth than someone asserting what they believe to true about someone else.

Hmmmm.... Of course I don't know much about your theory on the corrupt behavior, but I will say that Mokoa has been there for me, protected and supported me ( the right way).... So yes, I DO have respect for him babe. As for his volunteered duties to the board and it's discipline, I have not followed his work so couldnt agree or disagree. He's been a good character to me, just saying.
