Max, that's from my original post, maybe you missed it. Nobody is telling you that you have to be anything, sweetheart. I own a business, as do you in a way, and I always find it valuable to know the perspective of my prospective and current customers. Can I make all of them happy? Never. But i sure don't take swipes at them for merely mentioning where they're coming from.

I wouldn't hold out for something that isn't even in Beta yet.

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

Here are the stats of all website users, and based on the fact that the iPhone uses Safari as its browser along with all Macs, and Safari has only 3.7% of CURRENT market share. So, I will generously consider that of that 3.7%, 2% are iPhone users. So apply those statistics to ECCIE and the Hobby and add a percent for error if that makes you feel better....and arrive at 3%, which I think its closer to 1%, but that's my uneducated guess. 3% to me is still an extreme minority. Given that ECCIE has a little over 18,000 registered members, thats about 350 people. Minority.
dentonseek,

Nice statistics. I'm not suggesting that a large portion of the browsing population as a whole uses only their phone. I don't. I prefer Firefox on my laptop when surfing. However, i think it a valid hypothesis that the very nature of the hobby may cause a moderate deviation fom those statistical averages. This would be due to certain environmental factors, such as not wanting to lose your job by browsing prostitution related at work, or not wanting to end your marriage by browsing them at home, to name a couple.

And it's not that I don't like your answer, it's that I don't like your arrogance in thinking you know for a fact how everybody here hobbies. I'm not saying that I'm right in my hypothesis, I'm merely saying that without asking the quesion and letting people answer, there's no way to know.

Didn't CBS re-tool their website to incorporate HTML5 so iPad users can stream their shows, as well as, the websites mentioned here: http://www.apple.com/ipad/ready-for-ipad/

I agree with your assessments as far as "environmental factors" and I would also like to see who else resorts to using their phone due to these conditions. However, keeping the math in mind, I am fairly certain that they don't sway people much. The science of web traffic is part of my business and tracking usage is important to cater to consumers. I have seen site stats for websites like PinStack and CrackBerry who cater strictly to SmartPhone users and even they only have a minority accessing the site via phone. I'm sorry if I sounded arrogant, its just that I look at these types of scenarios all the time and I have the confidence through hindsight. On a lighter note, it would be great if Apple and Adobe stopped fighting, and allowed people to surf the web unrestricted. I don't care if they go with Flash or another solution, just let people access websites.

It just means that the players are compatible with the currently listed HTML5 standard. (Meaning, it looks like Flash, it used to be Flash, but it ain't Flash no more) Its kind of like saying your 2009 Honda's steering wheel will fit in the NEW 2010 Honda...before they've even completed making it.

(I say that because HTML5 has NOT currently decided on a video format, they are torn between Ogg Theora and H.264)

The specifications haven't even been finalized yet so this is all hype.

I hate that we can't always tell tone in a thread, email or IM. I was being silly and funny....LOL Or maybe I just amuse myself...and yes, I do this often! I was also trying to let you know where I and possibly another provider or two who might read the thread would be coming from....k?

I admit, I had no idea this was an issue and hate to think a potential client would pass myself or the other ladies by, due to circumstances beyond our control...:-( I love making new friends and hate to think I would ever miss out on meeting you or anyone else who might potentially be interested because of this little rule. Guess we're just potential non-browser friendly products...:-(

Actually, I thought it was a funny notion and it kinda made me giggle but then it also made me think ...you said you would simply pass or move on. If I was a guy and read an awesome review....I think I'd find a computer and check this babe out! LOL But hey, that's just me. While it is a potential loss for us, just be assured that before it becomes a REALLY SERIOUS issue out in the Hobby world, we providers know that the tech gents (about 80% of my clientelle) in the hobby, will figure out a way to ensure that doesn't happen to us....I love techies!! They are probably working on the issue as we speak. much love to the techies!!!

You also said that you were the one with the problem and you weren't here to bitch, well now we're the ones with the problem...and I'm not bitchin' either, but thanks for the heads up....LOL

On a serious note, hon, consider that when you say something like that, there are other gents that would take that notion and run with it. They will think, "hey, so and so can't view pics on his iphone and will pass a provider up because of it...easy enough to do...sounds like a plan!!" You guys are VERY influential to one another. Know what I mean? We appreciate you sharing the notion with the whole forum....(yikes!).....at least one provider somewhere lost some business after someone who read your plan of action decided to also make that his plan of action. oopsie! I'm just sayin' '-)

btw...I don't even know if I have a flash, but I do like to flash....is that a bad thing? LOL Does ECCIE use Flash for our showcases cause I got some flashy pics in mine? OK, so now I'm gonna worry about this issue. Dude...you're killin' me here! Serious question now... can you not view showcases on the ipod phone thingy?

No hard feelings, babykins...it's all good and I hope someday soon, the technology will catch up on your phone and everyone else's, if nothing but for my sake!!!! LOL xoxo

oh and btw...what's an Ipod? LOL I'm kidding...I know it's a helicopter landing pad....geez!

LOL. "I want web sites to be informative, not full of pointless gee-whiz nonsense that depends on having the latest version of some proprietary medium..."

I'm quite familiar with the HTML5 spec and I have yet to come across the '<informative>' tag. Good and bad website design is just that - design. Don't fall for Apple's propaganda regarding Adobe. Apple has very good reasons for shutting out Adobe but it has nothing to do with Adobe (per se) and everything to do with control (for quality and efficiency) and application lock-in.

Every single bit of website bullshit (and more) will be enabled by HTML5. It will be more difficult to filter when implemented in HTML5.

In the meantime, you're skipping hulu and the other 70% of video-enabled websites? Not into porn I guess? Have fun with that.

The Flash must die!!!!

Horrible, incompatible, unnecessary, insecure, crap.

There's NO reason any provider's website should use flash. Ordinary HTML works just fine.

And if anyone tells you their Flash based website keeps people from stealing you're pictures, they're simply lying to you. Or maybe they're really, REALLY stupid, but most likely they're simply dishonest.

Neither does a Deep Space Nine holo suite but unfortunately it will be years before either is generally available.

Two-thirds of Internet video sites are flash-based. You realize that the Internet is big, right? And you realize that HTML5 is still at pre-beta stage? We're talking years, not months.

If you want to play with HTML5, you can join the YouTube Beta site. You'll find that HTML5 performance sucks compared with flash. Why? Because it isn't hardware accelerated for Windows machines (flash is). Why? Because the standard isn't even complete yet. Nvidia, Intel, Microsoft, and others aren't going to build it in before the standard is nailed down.

Years. LOTS of years.

I agree with this. Flash is NOT required. Just don't listen to anyone who tells you that HTML5 is the answer. It won't be for years.

The webmasters of this site get stats in their server logs which tell them browser and version, OS and version, screen res, etc. From this info, you could tell an iPhone from a Mac. I think you'll find only about half of the Mac users use Safari. Firefox will get most of the rest.

Flash is a crash happy (crappy), insecure, resource hog.

When creating a page to advertise a service, you don't want to shut anyone out. When I ran a website I used to do compatibility tests with every browser, and every version going back 4 years. (actually, I had software do it for me.) You want things to load quickly, because customers are impatient, and will click out if it takes too long. All those tricks, bells, and whistles lose customers, instead of impressing them.

Keep it simple ladies.

Using flash means going to a lot of extra effort for the sake of reducing the number of guys who can view your site. The ``best'' you can do is also the easiest - not use flash.
