So basically its a class thing? All I've ever needed at a gym were weights, and Cardio equipment....maybe boxing equipment but only when I was doing boxing. Most of the time I've got my ipod on and could care less who's around me.
Having been in the military I can tell you, you don't need to train around Dr's and Lawyers to get motivated. I understand that some people might need a boost to get motivated but that should come from your desire to change your body not from some "elite" person. Just my .02

Then again it's where ever you feel comfortable working out at.

I go to 24 hour fitness. I don't know about a spin class, but I do know that they have Zumba class or whatever you call it. I only pay $30 a month or so I think. I didn't have a contract to sign or anything and that's one good reason about it because you can cancel it anytime you want to. The one I go to has a day care. So if you have kids then it is a good gym to go to.

I completely agree with your above statement!! I do a lot of outdoors working out (endurance running and cross fit type workouts) and find those to be more of a challenge with better results. But, as you said, not a Lot of people are self motivators and need the gym! I simply use my gym for back up days.. Like Tuesday, it had rained so much on Monday that I couldn't do my Hill workout. Another option is Bikram'a Hot Yoga. That is an amazing workout!!!

When I had a car I enjoyed 24 hours fitness. It is great when you have a late night appointment and need to wind down for the evening.

You my dear Abi are very self driven when it come to physical fitness whereas a lazy bum like me needs all the motivation i can get. This is why I have been doing army style boot camp for last 4-5 years at the Y. They are offered at all the Y's I think. It has really pushed me to be fit due to peer pressure involved in a group setting.

I've worked out at lifetime, 24, and fit in the span of time that I've lived in Houston, ended up stickin with fit simply because its convienient plus I feel comfortable there. I've never taken their spin classes, but from what I can tell they offer them pretty often and it looks like a good group in there if you need some motivation. I basically just stick to weights and cardio machines which are available anywhere. I've seen gyms offer deals on groupon as well so that might be an option if you're looking for a good deal.

Some Fitness Connection places have specials where you wont have to pay for your first month up front, but it will be billed to your second month and is only 9.99 a month. Its an awesome place I have had a membership with them once before and the trainers were motivated and dedicated in keeping their customers fit. I was just thinking yesterday how I should go back and start my workouts again so I can only be nothing but ass lol

A gym is a place to work out and sweat. If you are spending time shooting the crap with people you should be at a bar or a coffee house. I don't care about the clientele or if I had star athletes working with me, it is all of the same. The only thing I really look for in a gym is cleanliness and I have not been able to find one.
