I played Brack last year and it was not worth the 70 buck they were asking at the time. Oak Hills is much better and a much better player out there. Maybe it was a bad day and quite a few players that day but could not get into a rut while waiting for the 80 year old tiger woods at least he thought he was tiger.

Oak Hills is the best course in San Antonio, but it is private. Need to play with a member out there. Tapatio is shutting down. Financial problems caused in large part by lack of water resources doomed that course.

Quarry is interesting, but I hate the front nine. Pretty short course. Pecan Valley, The Republic and Silverhorn are nice as is Canyon Springs.

Cedar Creek is a nice track, but I played it recently and it is not in very good shape. Olmos is a goat track. Nothing good about it. Brack is nice but overrated.

Played the Bandit recently and liked it. I also like River Crossing but is going private if it hasn't already.

Briggs Ranch is nice but private--and kinda haughty about it, too. Golf Club of Texas sucks.

My two cents.

Love both TPC courses.......a local pro that plays on the PGA best score on the Oaks course is 70. I was out there when the U.T golf team was playing and the best score was 74. Long, deep bunkers, and fluffy sand.
(As dennisrn stated, High Velocity is a great place to meet and greet)

Oaks Hill is great shape year round and very friendly to all levels of golfers.
(They have there own private water well)

Both Pecan Valley and Republic are in excellent shape.

Brackenridge is also very enjoyable.

Not crazy about the Dominion.

San Antonio Country Club is nice....but must put up with 09'ers.

Willow is in bad shape ever since the green keeper put weed killer on the greens.
(to be fair, they are coming back)

Olmos will work if we get rain. Can be in very bad shape during the summer.
(Did have fun with a nasty cart girl last summer)

Not crazy about Cedar Creek.(Last time I was out there, the damn hogs were rooting up the greens)

Mission Del Lago is hot and dry in the summer.

Not crazy about Sonterra courses.

Love the Quarry. Great restaurant to drink and eat at, also.

La Cantera is a bitch!

I enjoy River Crossing.

I like Riverside,....the working girls along the road are a hoot.

Love the Hyatt!!!!!! Practice, cart girls, and course. (probably #1, besides TPC)

SilverHorn is very good, my home course, nice cart girls, and the best burgers in town.

To do list: Briggs Ranch, Cordilla Ranch, & Valler Creek.

Damn Gipper that was a pretty good summary of alot of the courses here in SA. I am a member at Oak Hills and literally love the course. Like you I have never cared for either Sonterra Course nor the Dominion. I did shoot a 75 on the TPC Oaks course and had a 70 on the Canyons course and yes they are certainly a challenge whereas La Cantera is pretty much like throwing darts and easy to score on as long as you keep it in the fairway. Do yourself a favor and get out to Cordiella as it is a fun and challenging course. I pretty much gave up on the city courses a long time ago and never did much like the blue hairs at the SA Country Club and have heard the same type are members at Briggs Ranch.

Thanks newcummer. I did play in college on a schloarship at what is now a Big 12 school and still immensley enjoy the game even though I don't get to play as often as I would like. As far as La Cantera is concerned I have always enjoyed the Palmer course as it seems to me to be more of a challenge.

I will have to recommend The Bandit.

I have played Oak Hills a couple of times in the Senior Pro-Am and found it very challenging. That course requires a straight driver and, unfortunately, I drive the ball about as as straight as Clinton's willy.

Hey Candle,

Maybe you should use the "Lewinsky" stroke on your swing...it'll get it straight and up!

The words easy and golf course do not fit in the same sentence when talking about my game. Just like there are no easy holes, or easy shots, or easy anything in golf. It's one of the reasons I love it so much. When I do well, it feels sooooo good!

I tried that...close but no cigar

Knowing where the ball is going to go takes the adventure out of the game. I pay to see the entire course; not just the short grass in the middle.

Also, for a cheap round The Hawk isn't bad. I am biased since it is one of two courses I managed to play under par.

I know this post is old but just finished Cedar Creek. The coarse was in great shape played very nice, but 30 bucks for a cart is a little steep, it would have been alright had the gps been working and you get some of he perks. 50 bucks was not bad but having to wait for the group in front of us and the cart problem....I would go back and walk it for the $35.
