How do you know there was no classified material, if they were war plans they were highly classified. I think that how classified is still being established. This is what happens when you send an national guard major to do a job that is meant to be filled with a four star of any service that have been to the various War colleges and checked all of the other boxes!

But I'm still sure any buck private would know that you don't send classified war plans using unsecure methods. If fact when you call any barracks or HQ in the military who ever answers the phone will tell you the name of the unit you called his or her name and rank and they will remind you that you are speaking on an unsecure line!
