I think Longer is right again. We simply must ban all speech which criticizes the government. We may never know what kind of mentally unbalanced individual will take that speech and do something all rational people abhor. So, by definition, anyone who disagrees with the government must be a terrorist and mentally unbalanced. The Soviet Union had a terrific model of psychiatric hospitals for just those reasons. We could learn from them. What's funny is, Timothy McVeigh thought that the subversive activity of gun ownership should be promoted, yet he didn't use a gun in his terrorism! Ironic. Never know what those gun nuts will do. Even without a gun.

So I think it's time to execute all Tea Partiers, conservatives, and anyone who knows how to spell "Glenn Beck" for our own safety. Would that make you happy Longer?

Shortly after the bombing, while driving on I-35 in Noble County, near Perry, Oklahoma, McVeigh was stopped by Oklahoma State Trooper Charles J. Hanger from Pawnee, Oklahoma. Hanger had passed McVeigh's yellow 1977 Mercury Marquis and noticed that it had no license plate. McVeigh admitted to the police officer (who noticed a bulge under his jacket) that he had a gun and McVeigh was subsequently arrested for having driven without plates and illegal firearm possession; McVeigh's concealed weapon permit was not legal in Oklahoma. McVeigh was wearing a T-shirt at that time with a picture of Abraham Lincoln and the motto: sic semper tyrannis ('Thus always to tyrants'), the state motto of Virginia and also the words shouted by John Wilkes Booth after he shot Lincoln. On the back, it had a tree with a picture of three blood droplets and the Thomas Jefferson quote, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

Timmy had a gun on him and I'm sure he would have used a gun instead of a bomb against the building if he could have gotten a big enough gun (cannon, rocket launcher, etc). As if was, McVeigh was sane enough to know that a handgun versus a building was a silly idea...unlike what you just implied, COG.

Dude, wasn't this post supposed to be honoring the victims in Norway??? Could we spat over politics elsewhere, in a new thread, please?

It was a politically motivated attack against a politician, a political party, and the sons and daughters of politicians. To ignore that is to dishonor the victims.

"At a 35-minute hearing remand hearing in Oslo, Breivik said the point of his attack had been to stop future recruitment to the Labour Party."

Norway shooting: killer 'confirms Gro Harlem Brundtland was main target'
The man who bombed Norway's capital and gunned down Labour Party youths on an island, killing at least 93, told police he intended to target former Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland, Oslo newspaper Aftenposten said.

Oh boy, here goes the politics....isn't there plenty of other threads for that stuff???

I have not followed this tragedy in detail. But what is frightening is that incidents like this are definitely done by nut jobs...but they really are not crazy in term of
coo-coo-for-co-co-pops....that's a well known technical medicial term, just look it up,lol.

It was a very well plan out attack....first the bombing, then being in uniform as a cop and traveling to the island, and then pulling off getting access to his victim as a cop, being able to get the appropriate weapons.

This guy was no fool, in terms of being the village idiot.

Have they determine whether he acted alone? Takes alot of bullets to kill the number of people that were killed on the island!

Sorry for perpetuating the political slant of this thread. It should be for the victims. It was obviously a terrible tragedy perpetrated by a deranged individual. Very sad all the way around.

I don't think they are telling whether he acted alone. They mentioned something about him mentioning assistance from some terrorist cells, but the official position when I last heard was that he acted alone. Unbelievable I know.
