DIdn't Charlie Rich sing "Rose Colored Glasses"? I am old enough to have had his 8 track back in the day.
Others are Don Williams, who passed away about 2 years ago. I saw him on his very last tour. He fell and broke his hip or something and never recovered. He was so smooth. Great 8 track also.
Kieth Whitley, one of the greatest country singers, in my opinion. Since he died, not many of his songs on the radio anymore. Beautiful wife, great career, he drank himself to death.
Billy Joe Royal was another smooth singer with a few good songs, on 8 track.
Charlie Pride, seen him a couple times in person, by in person, I shook his had. I was so close, I could see his revolver in his belt. Great singer in his day. Had a couple of his 8 tracks.
Fats Domino, fun music. Many 8 tracks.
Kenny Rogers is fading out on the radio also. He had so many hits in his hay days. Many on 8 track.
Johnny Paycheck isn't heard on the radio much anymore either.
Mel Tillis is all but forgotten on the radio.
Lot of these new age country singers don't sing the kind of songs I like. But a few are trying.

Ray Price was great....from TX. Roy Orbison too.
Don Williams hugely popular in Africa, of all places. Zambia loved his music.

Nice list. I'd add Faron Young to the males.
Somebody already mentioned Linda Ronstadt. She was one of the first to come to my mind.
What about Crystal Gayle or Sylvia?

I'd have put money on you saying Ray Wylie Hubbard. JJW would have been a close 2nd though.

Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Etheridge...I've always appreciated the artists who could write and perform their own music at a high level. Jackson Browne was mentioned earlier that guy was a huge talent.
Lindsey Buckingham had the talent to be much bigger than he became.
Steve Perry quit when he couldn't keep the pitch. Robert Plant reinvented himself. Those two I consider 1 and 1A in rock vocalists. Perry had the perfect pitch. Plant had the range. Some of his best later work was with Allison Krauss. The chemistry between the two was electric. Check out their work on YouTube and tell me she wasn't fucking him.
