That is unfortunately true- most Americans do not speak more than one language.
Unlike europe - most people speak multiple languages.
should that be a "minimum requirement to vote"?
I don't think so - so give us an explanation of the rationale why multilinguality should be a requirement to vote.
On top of an ID card that proves US citizenship.

My ECCIE Reviews

oeb11, you do realize that the Democratic and Republican parties switched, right? Please do us all a favor and google New Deal and educate yourself before you go off on another tangent.
"Democratic president Franklin Roosevelt won reelection that year on the strength of the New Deal, a set of Depression-remedying reforms including regulation of financial institutions, founding of welfare and pension programs, infrastructure development and more. Roosevelt won in a landslide against Republican Alf Landon, who opposed these exercises of federal power."
"So, sometime between the 1860s and 1936, the (Democratic) party of small government became the party of big government, and the (Republican) party of big government became rhetorically committed to curbing federal power."

- fought against every major civil rights act in U.S. history
- opposed Reconstruction
- imposed segregation
- participated in and promoted lynchings
- after the Civil War, gerrymandered Congressional voting districts to minimize the influence of blacks
- Democratic Supreme Court justices promoted slavery in the Dredd Scott decision while the Republican justices dissented
.
The Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an anti-slavery party, established to stop the spread of slavery into the new Western territories and ultimately abolish it altogether
More Republicans voted in favor of the 1964 Civil Rights Act than Democrats
A total of 80% of Republicans in both houses of Congress voted for the Civil Rights Act
Only 60% of Democrats voted for the Civil Rights Act
.

responses are predictable - all the leftists will deny factual history in favor of "What i feel should be"
Unfortunately, in today's academic climate, Dr. Swain just ruined her academic career by publishing facts not in concert with the DPST narrative.

and do you know that FDR's "New Deal" was an abject failure in breaking the Great Depression, yeah? and that FDR was singularly one of the worst and best presidents? He was terrible for his "Big Gov" socialist crap but he was smart enough to know Generals win wars.
what broke the Great Depression was WWII. Not FDR's "New Deal". But it did give us "BIG GOV" ... if that's a good thing??
