The function of the alternator is to charge the battery. If the battery still has some charge the lights and radio will still work. Just may not have enough to crank the starter. Autozone checks batteries and alternators for free, if you smile.
I know nothing about the push button start. I like turning my key.
Rented one once and couldn't find the key hole. Had to get the girl out to show me how to start it. A bit embarrassing.

Could be the neutral safety switch... have you tried to start it in neutral? Also the key could have lost contact with the ECM.
Would help to know what the year, make and model is?

Is it the oem key or a clone ? A "friend" had a similar experience & in the end it was just the key that needed to be re-flashed because it was a aftermarket clone from Wal-Mart.

Doubtfull. The key fob should be fine and it probably is, since it sounds like everything works except for the car starting. The only thing that I have ever seen reprograming after a battery changed, is the computer itself for telling it you have a new battery, but thats on BMW, Audi, etc. But even if you have one of those, the car would still start since its for keeping thr battery efficently charged.

Was the new starter tested to make sure its good?

Finally my 2¢, if you have an alarm system, the problem could be the "lock out" feature that prevents the car starting till the button on the fib is pushed.. I had that fail on my Blackbird way back. it really had me going and I am a mechanical engineer and electric engineer. Finally had it topwed it to a reliable mechanic, he traced it to the aftermarket alarm which he removed and told me he saw that problem a lot. For whatever all that's worth-that and $7 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Here are some possibilities:

Does is crank or no? If it cranks do you the the rpm needle move up during cranking? Have someone hotwire/click the starter under the hood and force it to crank with the ignition on and see if it starts

I would have the Locksmith that made you the new key come out to see if all is good first, it could possibly be a transponder issue, this is probably the first step if the no key present is on the dash

Need a bit more info. It could be as simple as the switch at the pedal. Make sure your brake lights are coming on. If you still have issues send me a message and ill come out and take a peek.
