I want to be understanding of you needing to talk to your kids and applaud you put them first.
But a few things to keep in mind.
If you scheduled for say 2 pm do you expect me to bet here at 2? Is it ok for me to be late?
No? Then if you expect me to be on time reverse should be true. You know someone is expected to arrive at a given time so you should call the kids and yell at them prior to the appointment and be ready when the time comes. What kind of session is the guy going to get if just before walking in the door you have been fighting with the kids and are angry? Can you really turn that off and be pleasant so the planned activities will be top notch?
Remember whatever amount of time you ask the guy to wait he is sitting in the car looking suspicious. When people see him there do they think maybe he is casing the joint and up to no good? If a cop pulled up and questioned him how does he explain just sitting around in a car at a place he has no good reason to be? Do you expect him to say he is waiting for you to give the ok to come up so yes he has a good reason to be there?
And if it is summer remember he is sitting there in a hot car getting sweaty. He is going to be sweaty smelly stinking when he walks in. If personal hygiene is not important to you then no biggie. If you make it a point to be freshly showered (as you should) and expect the client to be freshly showered (as you have a right to) then even one minute is too long. In 100 degree heat it does not take long. I remember having an appointment with someone once and arriving to hear them say they had not arrived yet and would be there shortly. I waited around 10 minutes and I could stand to smell myself. I was miserable from sitting out in the heat and any romantic mood I had been in was way gone.
If your appointment time is going to be a moving target discuss up front and let the person know. If something unexpected comes up when the guy calls and says I am here give him a definite time of what the delay is expected to be. Then if he needs to drive around the block some or go get an ice cream at Braums or whatever to stay clean and comfortable you are less likely to have someone give up and move on to plan B.

10 minutes if I'm in the car and no more than 5 minutes if I'm in the lobby/hotel BUT stuff happens, there's always the next option for both parties.

Im a lunch time hobbyist who lost his hobby phone. Therefore I appreciate how you worked with me on the pm's. You gave me easy access. I didnt have to wait at all. I was the one late. And you were cool. I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt in future appts because of this. I wont ever hold it against you. You can trust me.

After our appt I know you are worth the wait. If I run out of time on my lunch break, I'll be willing to reschedule.

Did he offer any explanation why he left.... or why he couldn't just turn around and come right back? He couldn't have gotten too far lol!
If he was a "newb", then he probably just got nervous and was on the verge of backing out anyway. Either that, or he'd have to be a complete asshole to feel like 5 minutes is too long to wait.
Ideally, all prepping should be done by appointment time and any non-emergency calls should be handled after the appointment, but shit does happen. That's a given.
I agree with 10-15mins being fair, depending on the situation. I waited longer once, because it was a public area and I didn't feel particularly "out of place." I was also receiving regular status updates at the time, though, too.

I usually give it 10-15 minutes. I'm don't get a response from a text or phone call, that time shortens.

Hey Anastasia.. 5-10 mins is negligible - if you are really looking forward for a mind-blowing session !!! And, which I know, you are an Expert in it !!!!
So, if I was there, I would have waited some more time !!!

Pet Peeve !
I know shit happens so I take that into consideration and I'll wait a short while.
I NEVER ncns and I never show up late unless something happens with traffic or directions.
If I'm going to be late, I call or text ahead and I request that from the provider as well. It's common courtesy plus it shows respect and launches the session as likely a nice one.

so you know exactly how much time he had to hobby. could be he had a one hour window and felt he had to go to plan "B" I made an appointment last night and got to the intersection but alas, no response from the (probably) still sleeping provider. I left before 10 mins because I hadn't gotten any response all morning.

15 minutes for a first timer. 30 minutes for a good friend. An hour for Addison XOXO because she's never on time, but makes up for it with the length of time for her dates.

Fifteen minutes is my limit. I did wind up leaving one time and she apologized and expressed her regret so we scheduled for the next day and it happened again. Needless to say, I never went back.

5 minutes is annoying.
10 minutes I'm threatening to leave (and if I get sass, probably just leaving)
15 minutes I'm gone.
It's the illusion I go for. Like, you just can't wait to fuck me so you're waiting at the door at 3pm like a good girl should.

The longer the wait the less likely anything good is going to happen. I have played the string along game before and it has always resulted in disaster. Bad session, NS, provider cutting my time short, extra. 10 to 15 min if it's our first time 15 to 20 if I like you. Christina or Lita I'll wait however long they need me to.

Do you have a phone where you can text and talk at the same time? Pretty cool new feature these days.
