Laid off in the Great Recession, used the severance package and my 401(k) to buy rental homes. So while I'm "retired" from my career path, I still have great income and time to play.

I will be 48 next year and retiring.
I worked my ass off investing in rental property, smaller businesses etc.

I will manage from afar but I will no longer have to work in an office and will spend most of my time traveling for me instead of work.
