There, off to the side, away from the sight of anyone who was not looking for it, was the sign banning handguns. Wasn't a sign that legally banned handguns in the state of Texas, but that's a different story. A second bet I'd be willing to make is that MAYBE 1 out of every thousand customers of the movie theater sees the sign. If movie theaters were really serious about enforcing a gun free zone, they would put the signs where they could easily be read by anyone entering the theater, like it is done at my office building.
So once again IMHO it's BS that the shooter chose the site he did because it was in reality a gun free zone. The guy is mentally ill, ends up shooting himself, but he was sane enough to choose a gun free zone for his killing. I'm sure your opinion is different but since Houser is dead we'll never know for certain.

Proof???
2 killed, 7 wounded by Houser, not including himself. He could have done equal damage at the local Walmart before deciding to shoot himself. Why choose a movie theater, other than it might be a gun free zone? How about there were 300 people in the building, those who were in the "Trainwreck" theater were closely clustered together as they are in any movie theater. What better place to kill as many people as possible in a short amount of time before killing yourself?

Actually, he doesn't know.
Just like the guy probably didn't know it was a gun free zone, but he probably figured that most people in there would be focused on the movie in the darkened theater and he would be able to pull out his weapon and start shooting people before they realized what was happening .... He picked the spot.
Was he "criminally insane"? It is reported he tried to walk out with the crowd as though he was "escaping" from the shooter, then when confronted by police he shot himself as opposed to being arrested and convicted. Those are not facts supporting "insanity" for purposes of a defense.

WAS. Everything in the South WAS at one time democrat.
Doesn't he know how weak his bullshit is? JDrunk is already sucking down the sauce!
The point is that this deranged, hate monger was allowed to purchase a firearm and then, calculatingly and premeditatedly took it to a crowded movie complex and started slaughtering people.
The common denominator here is "Nuts with Guns."
None of you can do anything but argue details without addressing the facts.
How different might you idiots be squealing if the guy had been a Muslim?
The problem isn't crazy people. The problem is crazy people with GUNS!

You are correct but how do we fix this problem. Its not the right, the NRA or most gun owners who are against keeping crazy people from guns. This individual bought the gun legally from a licensed firearms dealer. The right, the NRA and most gun owners have publically stated that the needs of the mentally ill are not being addressed. This idiot bought the gun legally. Background checks are prevented from considering mental competency because the records are sealed because of HIPPA regulations. This is a third rail issue for the left and civil rights organizations such as the ACLU. What law could be enacted that doesn't change mental competency access and could have prevented this idiot from getting a gun. In addition, would changes in access to mental health records prevented this killing spree as his illness may not have been documented.
As for why he chose the movie theater, he can get a large number of people in a small confined space, and as has been demonstrated he will get maximum exposure in the media due to the court case involving the Colorado idiot.

There is no fixing this problem just like there is no fixing the right's obsession with fixing abortion or medical research on aborted tissue.
This is like trying to fix a hurricane or tornado.
