Actually, LAC, that was true about the Senate until the end of 2009, when Scott Brown was elected to the Senate. After the Nov. election, the GOP gained one more seat immediately, because the Illinois Senate seat that the Bamster gave up was won by a Republican, Mark Kirk, and he was allowed to take the seat right away. So the distribution now is 56 Democrats, 42 Republicans and 2 Independents.

I agree, COG, and I don't blame you for this one.

"So the distribution now is 56 Democrats, 42 Republicans and 2 Independents."

True, but the voting records of Snow, Collins, and even Brown indicate that the democrats can get stuff done. It is these few self appointed swing votes which can hold legislation hostage...not the RNC.

I think this deal was probably as good a deal as Obama was going to get out of them for now. The GOP have been sitting on their hands and pointing fingers for 2 years now and as soon as they get some power they figure "yeah, lets keep the rich rich and let the little guys carry the load." Typical of them these days.

What a crock, do you even think for yourself or just repeat what the talking heads say on TV, how does the tax rate "the rich" pays effect you. I mean you liberals cant even come up with a new strategy, no its the same ole class warfare BS. You liberals cant take responsibility for anything, you could have passed any bill you wanted because you had a super majority, every Republican could have voted NO and you could have passed every bill, but the fact of the matter is you couldn't even get your own freaking party to support you completely. SO blame the GOP for being the party of no all you want, but they did not stop a fucking thing, you Democrat were the party of no, you couldnt even get your own party to support this agenda completely. Buts its the GOP' fault they stopped everything, what a load of crap. You guys had a "sure thing" she was hot fast and ready to go, and you couldn't get your dicks hard", but its someone else fault ......................... LOL.

Liberals don't use porn to jack off, they use Olberman's picture. Republicans use Senate pages. Independents don't have time, they're trying to keep the country from imploding.

I think its funny how one side blames the other, how can so many people think exactly like their party? Noone is willing to think on their own anymore. How bout this for an idea on taxes, everyone gets the same rate? God that would make to much sense. The poor would pay less and the rich would pay more because x% of a small number is less than x% of a large number but at least the the rich aren't getting punished for being rich and the poor aren't getting gifts because they are poor!

Yeah I have proposed that, many others have two but there is always a reason its unfair, or the rich dont pay enough its always something from one side or the other. I am proud to be independent, its always a challenge trying to decide which turd you like best every 4 years.

Everyone that is wanting the Bush plan to expire, are you going to take the child tax credits and everything else. If you are then where is your worry about your kids future. Give me a freakin break.

How can it be a tax increase when it was designed to expire? At most it was suppose to be a temporary tax relief. But we are a me generation, got a taste of some extra money and don't want to turn it loose.Like my kids will benefit from just me paying more taxes, when everyone else it screwing their future. Yeah I might decrease their tax load by .0000000001 cents. Typical far right standard line - "you can always volunteer to pay more taxes."Give me a freaking break.

I believe the Dems and the Republicans are just big crap machines, all they care about is getting re-elected and making money for themselves. So don't try to put me in a neat little box. I care about this country and its future.

I agree, spending is out of control. But even if we reign it in, do you honesty think the current tax system is going to pay off the deficit?

Hell, if we balance the budget, its still just balanced, we still have a huge debt. We all are going to need to suffer to get this under control.

We are like the grasshopper and the ant. Now its time to pay the piper.

Well when it has been the tax code for the last 7 years or so, alot of people would consider that a tax increase if it was allowed to expire, but hey, that's just me. The problem isn't keeping the current tax code, it's the SPENDING!!!

I think the democrats just gave us a clear indication of what they think about us. They are willing to consider the tax extension but only if they can get more "sweeteners" added to the bill. I guess they didn't hear about the election last month. Too bad we don't have the capability for recall or at least change our vote within 30 days of an election.

On the other hand, how do you feel about being a hostage? That seems to be the charge agreed to by the democrats. They are all over the tube repeating it. Of course the reality is that they are willing to increase our taxes without the courtesy of a vote by our representatives. That seems so undemocratic and, Nancy Pelosi aside, not what our founding fathers wanted.

Well, we are keeping a weather eye on the lot, republicans and democrats both. How do you like the fact that the republican idiot behind the incandescent light bulb ban is slated to be in charge of the committee on energy? Not yet he hasn't.

Big Mike, no, I don't think the current tax system has any chance in hell of paying off the debt. Our current system is an uncontrollable behemoth that creates a tremendous drag on the economy. It is not designed to raise revenue but to control the population.

Think about it. If you were starting a new country and had to come up with a system of taxation, and someone brought in our current tax code, they would be laughed out of the meeting. Even Einstein said the tax code is incomprehensible, and it was a lot simpler when he said that.
