Q39 is competition level, but the high price and small portions aren't worth the xtra quality IMO

Zero case for damages. Cities are immune except in cases of negligence. Low water pressure is not even close to that.

Gates better rebuild. That's where we pickup prior to football games a few blocks away.
But I do agree about KC Joes.
Unless down SKC/Martin City then it's Jack Stack. Amusing to carry that into the brew garage at MCB.

Me too - with Smokin Guns in NKC on Swift a close second and Oklahoma Joes 3rd (I know, I know it is not called OK Joes anymore) .

Given that in Warren v. District of Columbia, the court held that the police don't have an obligation to provide protection to the public, I doubt it.

Because: Independence.
Case dismissed.

It seems to me low water pressure would be negligent, but hey, that makes too much sense in today's political and legal climate.

No obligation? Interesting.

I don't like or frequent Gates BBQ or Independence, so it matters not to me if they rebuild, but Mr. Gates has expressed that he will. Thanks for the info, y'all.

The problem is not with the city. I work for a city & it is not KCMO. There is a reason that the fire department sends a "pumper truck" to fire calls. That truck is there to provide a boost in pressure that the fire department needs to put out a fire. No fire hydrant provides adequate pressure. That is why the hose from the hydrant, hooks up to the pumper truck, & a hose from the pumper truck is used by the firemen to put out the flames. If there is inadequate pressure, it is a result of the pumper truck being used not in proper working condition or not be adequate to the task at hand. Now we all know the fire department works for the city. That being said, there may be room for some "shared responsibility." But on its face, the city did its part by dispatching the fire department to do its job & for whatever reason, the equipment that the fire department brought with it was not up to the task. Is that because they brought too small a truck, the truck was not properly maintained, the city's budget did not provide for an adequate pumper truck or maintenance of said truck? We don't know. I'm simply glad that the fire department lost no lives & suffered no injuries. We rely on them heavily & they do a great job. BTW, Ollie is of course going to question the city & the fire department as this is not his first fire and is considered by many to be one of his worst restaurant form a quality of product & service point of view. At least in the opinion of myself and many I've had had the opportunity to interact with in my life. Enjoy all. :-)

Please forgive the typos. Restaurant = restaurants & form = from.

Probably not. When there is a fire the water department and the fire department have to coordinate their efforts to provide enough water pressure to combat the fire. Once the water department receives the notification they have to race to the pumping station that supplies the water flow to the water lines that are used to combat the fire and turn the flow up.

In the middle of the night, and in cold weather, this does not happen instantly.

The news said that they had to take water from a distant source (something about over a block away). If they got flow from another hydrant it would have been on another supply line.

I had to know this stuff 43 years ago (for a company in Independence, MO) when everything was manual. Today, some pumping stations can increase flow automatically, or be remotely controlled. But that ability has only been available over the last 15 years (and become reliable over the last 5 years). Most pumping stations still do not have that available.

Water supply (flow) and water pressure needed to throw the water to the fire are two different things.

It is required, by law, that the fume hoods the restaurants be cleaned regularly. It is quite common for grease fires to happen in these hoods. Recently I was having lunch with a person who designs these systems when I asked him about a little pan off to the side. He said it was a grease collection pan. Then he gave me a 30 minute speech about the dangers of a grease fire in the fume hood.

He called me after the fire in independence and said that stupid Mr. Gates must have not had the required (by law) fume hood maintenance program in place. If he can't prove that he had kept the hoods clean, the insurance may not pay for the loss. Grease fires in restaurant fume hoods are common and are addressed in many insurance policies.

Save a dollar on maintenance and lose your entire building with no payable insurance.

Mr. Gates is a loud mouth whose sauce makes me sick every time I have eaten it. The pork sandwich at Gates certainly is not Kosher.

It couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy.

"Hello, may I help you?"

Wow, you hit the nail on the head with this posting.

I ate in this dive one time. It was really bad. I never went back.

Rosedale is my Bar-B-Q of choice.
